FB2: Week 23

FB2_Week23My consecutive days over goal streak has now reached 30 days, with a so-so week saved by a top 25 day on Saturday.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, thanks to a morning walk in the neighborhood followed by Danny’s graduation party.  Monday was Independence Day and another early walk around town helped me surpass my daily goal.  Tuesday was back to work and the return of the afternoon coffee run.  Wednesday was the weak link of the week, finishing a mere 54 steps above my 6000 goal.  Things bounced back a bit on Thursday and Friday, as both days approached 7000 steps.  Saturday was the big day of the week, as the White Sox victory over the Braves was followed by a trip downtown for Taste of Chicago with Hayley, resulting in close to 14,000 steps.

Vacation Recap – Universal Studios

UniversalAfter a whole 9 weeks since my last trip to Florida, I woke up early on the morning of June 1 for a 6 AM flight to Orlando with the family.  After landing, we caught the shuttle to the Hard Rock Hotel, where we had a long wait for the rooms to be ready.  After a quick lunch and a round of mini golf at the Citiwalk, Dennis, Angelina, Danny, and I went to Islands of Adventure for a quick re-introduction to Harry Potter land and the Jurassic Park ride.  We then headed back to the hotel, finally got in to our rooms, had dinner with appearances from a minion and Scooby Doo, and then called it an early night due to the early flight.

Thursday morning we got an early start and started at Universal, where we had a breakfast date at the Leaky Cauldron in the new Harry Potter area.  After breakfast, we headed to Olivanders to pick up wands for the boys, then went through the line for the Gringotts ride, before my mom and I begged off before the ride began.  It was at this point I got a text message from Jeff asking me to get him a wand.  As you may recall, I was at this very spot with Jeff less than 2 months ago and he could have purchased his own wand, but he was being a bit of a baby.  So, I went and bought him a wand, putting more thought in to it than I probably should have.  Once everyone was done at Gringotts, we hopped on the Hogwarts Express for the ride to Islands of Adventure.  Later, we wound up back at Universal, where Danny had an encounter with the shrunken head on the Knight Bus.

Friday was back to Universal for a character breakfast at Cafe LaBamba, followed by a return trip to Harry Potter land. After a quick trip back over to Islands of Adventure, we headed back to the hotel for some fun in the pool.

FB2: Week 18

FB2_Week18A tremendous week, finishing with my second highest total in the Fitbit era, behind only my week in Toronto last fall.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I failed to crack 4000 steps.  It picked up a bit on Monday, which was a day off work thanks to Memorial Day.  Tuesday was my sole work day of the week, which was decent enough.  Things kicked into high gear on Wednesday, when I headed back down to Florida for Danny’s graduation trip to Universal Studios.  The remainder of the week all finished above 10,000 steps, with Friday being the low day with “only” 12,213 steps.

FB2: Week 17

FB2_Week17The week got off to a slow start on Sunday despite a trip down to US Cellular Field to watch the White Sox eke out a victory against the Royals.  Monday saw a bit of a recovery, but was a standard work day.  Tuesday was the star of the week, thanks to an after-work trip down to see the White Sox lose to the Indians that finished with nearly 13,000 steps.  Wednesday and Thursday were back to the normal work day activities, with Thursday getting a small boost thanks to Danny’s graduation..  Friday fell a bit below my goal thanks to an early exit from work for the long weekend.  Saturday saw a nice bounce back thanks to a long walk around the neighborhood.

FB2: Week 4

FB2_Week4As 5K February continues, last week turned out to be my best week overall since early October.  Things got off to a good start on Sunday thanks to Danny’s basketball game followed by Angelina’s skating exhibition.  Monday was my second 10,000 step day of the year, thanks mostly to running around the office.  Tuesday and Wednesday were also very successful, finishing near or well above 9000 steps.  Things slowed down on Thursday, but still made it above my goal.  Friday was the worst day of the week, thanks to spending most of the day in a car travelling to and from Kalamazoo.  The week ended with a nice day weather-wise, which led to my first outside walk of the year.

The Ever Growing 10,000 Step Club

Last winter, as the GlobalFit program was wrapping up, I took my last look at the top 20 step days I’ve had since I first started tracking my steps way back in July of 2011.  At the time, I had only surpassed the 10,000 step plateau 45 times.  In the year plus since then, I have managed to nearly double that number, raising the total to 81.  With my first year using the Fitbit coming to an end last week, I thought it would be appropriate to take a new look at my updated top 20 step days over the past 4 1/2 years, featuring 8 new entries.

btn10K-41: 6/6/2013 – 24,988 steps

My best single day total came during my 2013 trip to Disney World.  The day’s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles.  And yes, it still bothers me that I didn’t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.

2: 7/27/2013 – 20,592 steps

My second highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race.  These 2 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.

3: 9/6/2015 – 18,259 steps

The first new addition to the list comes courtesy of my trip to Toronto last September.  This Sunday consisted of traversing around Toronto, with trips to Royal Ontario Museum and, at night, the Molson Canadian Ampitheatre for the Oddball Comedy Fest.

4: 9/11/2015 – 17,889 steps

Another new addition thanks to my trip to Toronto.  My last day in the city was spent at the Eaton Centre mall, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a few other stops.

5: 6/8/2013 – 17,852 steps

My now-fifth highest output brings us back to Disney World, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.

6: 9/5/2015 – 16,083 steps

We head back to Toronto for my sixth highest day, my first full day in the city.  There was exploring along the riverfront and, of course, a trip to Rogers Centre for a Blue Jays game.

7: 9/23/2014 – 15,728 steps

This total was accomplished thanks to the 2014 Sprint & Stride 5K race that was held at work.

8: 9/9/2012 – 14,957 steps

My eighth highest total comes thanks to a Sunday in Belfast spent walking from our hotel, down to the Titanic museum, and then back again.

9: 6/7/2013 – 14,940 steps

Another day of 2013’s vacation to Disney World, this day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.

Fitbit Week 51

Week51_FBOnce again, the week gets off to a disappointing start with a substandard Sunday, centered around a trip to Danny’s basketball game.  Things pick up slightly on Monday, though no coffee trip leaves me south of 6000 steps for the day.  Tuesday featured the return of the coffee run, pushing my total near 8000.  Wednesday was down again, with a big rebound on Thursday and Friday, thanks to two trips to North on the former and a post-work trip to Mariano’s on the later.  Saturday was once again back down below my goal, as I spent the day sitting around doing very little.
