Fitbit Week 5

Week5_FBThe week got off to a slow, but rebounded to be my best week in 2 months.  Sunday was its usual slack day, not even breaking 4000 steps.  The work week was very productive, with my worst day, Tuesday, just missing 6500 steps.  Saturday managed to be a plus day, thanks to a trip down to Purdue with Danny and Michael for an exciting basketball contest against the University of Illinois.

Total steps: 51,124

Daily average: 7303.4

Fitbit Week 4

Week4_FBAnother typical week, with the weekends struggling to break 5000 steps while the work week tries to bring up the average.  Wednesday and Thursday were missing the daily coffee trip to North Plaza due to leaving early to watch Danny and Michael.  Friday was a day off, with a total nearing 6000 thanks to a trip to the United Center to see the Bulls defeat the Timberwolves.

Weekly total: 38,720

Daily average: 5531.4

The 10,000 Step Club Revisited

Last spring, I took an initial look at the top 20 step days I’ve had since starting the GlobalFit program way back in July of 2011.  At the time, I had only surpassed the 10,000 step plateau 31 times.  In the 8 months since then, I have managed to raise that number to 45.  With the GlobalFit program officially wrapping up earlier this week, I thought it would be appropriate to take a new, and final, look at my updated top 20 step days over the past 3 1/2 years.

btn10K-41: 6/6/2013 – 24,988 steps

My best single day total came during my 2013 trip to Disney World.  The day’s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles.  And yes, it still bothers me that I didn’t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.

2: 7/27/2013 – 20,592 steps

My second highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race.  These 2 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.

3: 6/8/2013 – 17,852 steps

My third highest output brings us back to Disney World, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.

4: 9/23/2014 – 15,728 steps

A new addition since my original list, this total was accomplished thanks to the Sprint & Stride 5K race that was held at work last fall.

5: 9/9/2012 – 14,957 steps

We round out the top 5 with my highest total outside of the United States.  A Sunday in Belfast spent walking from our hotel, down to the Titanic museum, and then back again.

6: 6/7/2013 – 14,940 steps

Another day of 2013’s vacation to Disney World, this day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.

2015 Calendar

Cover1
Cover2 Now that Christmas has come and gone, we can unveil the cover to this year’s calendar gift made up of pictures I have taken throughout the year. Once again. this year’s calendar was produced by the good folks at Shutterfly. As in year’s past, we will unveil each month’s photo(s) on the first day of the month throughout 2015.

This year’s cover is made up of multiple pictures.  First, we have all 3 together from our Mother’s Day trip to Brookfield Zoo.  Next, we have Angelina and Michael in a shot from the Lincoln-Way West gym during one of Danny’s basketball games.  Lastly, we have Danny and Michael posing with Bucky Badger on the Vitense Golfland minature golf course in Madison, WI, where we stopped on our way to Minneapolis last July.

It’s Hard To Hold A Candle In The Cold November Rain

IMG_0550As the calendar turns to November, we celebrate Mr. Danny, who will become a teenager.  The main photo is from last summer, when he couldn’t get the fingerprint scanner to work while trying to enter Disney World.

We also take a look back at him through the years, including trips to the White Sox World Series parade in 2005 and our trip to Universal Studios in 2010. Continue reading →

15 (and 40) Candles

photoA double helping of birthday cake today, as Angelina celebrates her 15th birthday and I bid a fond farewell to my 30s and turn the big 4-0.  This picture was taken exactly one year ago today, as we celebrated our birthday last year at her piano recital.  This year, we will likely not see each other on our birthday for the first time since she was born, thanks to Danny and a band concert.
