Time To Go Dancing

It’s that time of year again, as the nation’s attention turns to the college hoops scene for the next few weeks. I’m in three different pools again this year, one at work, one at my mom’s work, and one run by a friend.  For the first time since 2012, the Purdue Boilermakers return to the tournament, though they will not have an easy go of it.

2015midwestrd1The Midwest bracket has the overall #1 seed, the undefeated Kentucky, who I envision will make it to the Final Four.  Purdue, should they make it past their first round opponent, will run into Kentucky in the second round, so it is extremely unlikely they make it past this weekend.

2015westrd1After winning the Big Ten Tournament, Wisconsin earned the #1 seed in the West bracket.  The only big upset I am picking here is Ohio State over VCU.

2015 Tickets – Northside Edition

After 3 straight years of tremendous season ticket packages, the Cubs were due for a bit of a letdown.  That’s not to say this year’s collection of goodies is not impressive, but it is a bit scaled back from year’s past.  First, the box itself, which reverts back to cardboard after last year’s tin extravaganza.

Inside the box, aside from the tickets themselves, were a few goodies.  Once again, the Cubs tried to save themselves a few bucks by encouraging people to not pay with credit cards through the offer of an autographed Javy Baez baseball.  In addition to that, there was a commemorative season holder pin, lanyard, and knit scarf.

Finally, the tickets themselves.  For the first time in years, the team has reverted back to action photos of the current crop of players.  Again, not bad, but a bit of a letdown after the past few years of baseball cards and historical programs.

Fitbit Week 6

Week6_FBAnother decent week, though a steep drop off from the week before.  The weather finally turned a corner last week, and every day was above freezing, even getting into the 60s by the end of the week.  Unfortunately, I was not able to take advantage of most of it, due to the combined efforts of IBM and a release, which kept me busy all week.  The weekends continue to be a dead zone, but hopefully that will improve next month with baseball season upon us.

Top 200 Albums – #1 – 10

itunes_imageMy latest desktop computer arrived in late 2007, at which point I transitioned all of my music off of my laptop. 2 iPods, 3 iPhones, and an iPad later, that computer is still my main repository of music, with iTunes updating its stats every time I listen to something.

Having already gone through cassette tapes and CDs, and digital music, it’s time to roll everything up with the Top 200 albums whose songs I’ve listened to as of September 2014, according to iTunes. Today we finish up the list and look at the top 10 albums that I have listened to the most.

The soundtrack album to the musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer takes the top spot thanks to 21 of the 23 tunes from the album.

Back To The Dance

purduebasketballFor the first time since 2012, the Purdue mens basketball team is heading to the NCAA tournament, earning a 9 seed in the Midwest region and an opening round game against Cincinnati.  Of course, should they advance to the second round, they will face the overall #1 seed, the undefeated Kentucky.

After a shaky start to this season, including an embarrassing home loss to Gardner-Webb in December, the Boilers turned things around during conference play, finishing in a 3-way tie for third place and earning a double-bye in the Big 10 Tournament.

#165 – Ryan Sweeney

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Chicago White SoxName: Ryan Sweeney

Rank: 165

Position: OF

Years With White Sox: 2006-2007

Ryan Sweeney joined the White Sox organization as their 2nd round pick in the 2003 draft.  He worked his way through the system before making his major league debut on September 1, 2006, appearing as a late inning defensive replacement.  Sweeney appeared in 18 games for the defending champions, hitting .229 in 35 at bats.

Sweeney returned to Charlotte for the 2007 season, as the number one prospect in the White Sox organization according to Baseball America.  He earned himself another September call-up, appearing in 15 games and batting only .200.

On January 3, 2008, Sweeney was packaged along with pitchers Fautino de los Santos and Gio Gonzalez, in the ill-fated deal with the A’s that brought Nick Swisher to the south side.

Sweeney’s numbers in a White Sox uniform, both for games I attended and overall, were:

Fitbit Week 5

Week5_FBThe week got off to a slow, but rebounded to be my best week in 2 months.  Sunday was its usual slack day, not even breaking 4000 steps.  The work week was very productive, with my worst day, Tuesday, just missing 6500 steps.  Saturday managed to be a plus day, thanks to a trip down to Purdue with Danny and Michael for an exciting basketball contest against the University of Illinois.
