Fitbit 6: Week 2

Yet another disappointing week.  Things got off to a typical slow start on Sunday, coming in a mere 1 step shy of 3000.  Monday was the best day of the week, earning over 9400 steps.  Tuesday and Wednesday were limited thanks to all day meetings with IBM in Schaumburg, so I pulled down 4200 and 3800 respectively.  Thursday bounced back over goal, thanks in part to a post-work snowblowing session, and finished with 8300 steps.  Friday was another disappointment, with 5600 steps.  Saturday was its usual mess, with only 2200 steps.

2018: The Year In Music

I managed to see 4 different concerts last year, across 3 states. This is the story of those shows.

The first show was in Las Vegas back in March.  In conjunction with the IBM Think conference, the Barenaked Ladies were performing on the beach at Mandalay Bay.  IBM had hooked one of my co-workers up with a cabana for the show, due to her being a legitimate superfan of the band, which the rest of us got to crash.  The group cycled through their hits, including the theme song to The Big Bang Theory, which was a nice surprise. I don’t think you could ask for much more out of a free show attached to a tech conference.

The next night, there were two shows going on.  We had our choice of Train or The Chainsmokers, and I went with option 2.  The show was at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and it was not quite what I was expecting.  In my defense, I am an old and thus was not up to speed on the nature of the Chainsmokers, so I should have been more familiar with the type of music the band would be performing.  While the two guys I were with decided to bail after a half hour or so, I decided to stick it out and was genuinely entertained, if not in the manner I was expecting.  I can’t say it is something I would want to see again, but I’m glad I did so at least once.  And, hey, you can’t beat the price.

In August, Pearl Jam came to Wrigley Field for 2 shows and I attended the first one.  It’s been a long time since I considered myself a Pearl Jam fan, and the show, while entertaining, certainly dragged for long periods between songs that I knew.

Finally, in October, I traveled to Boston to, on top of Angelina related things, see Garbage at the House of Blues.  The 20 Years Paranoid tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Version 2.0, had played in Chicago the week before, but I’ve already done that a time or 5.  With Game 1 of the World Series taking place across the street at Fenway Park, Garbage put on another fine show, ripping through the entirety of their second album, along with some covers and special treats.

And that does it.  Time will tell what 2019 has in store and I look forward to finding out.

A tremendous week, pulling in my second highest weekly total of the year and my second highest single day total of the year and all-time.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, where I managed a pedestrian 3200 steps.  Monday was a nice bounce back, coming in at over 9800 steps thanks to going back and forth between Willow and South.  Tuesday was another nice day, finishing just shy of 7900 steps.  Wednesday combined work, a trip out with IBM, and some last minute shopping to come in close to 11,000 steps.  Thursday improved on that, finishing over 11,500 steps, thanks to a trip to the airport after work to head to Virginia with Val.  Friday was a slow day, as we spent the day working in Jeff’s apartment before heading out at night.  Saturday was the big day of the week, as we hiked up to McAfee Knob in the Appalachian Mountains.  All told, the day ended with 27,278 steps, taking over second place since I started tracking steps 8 years ago.

Another good week, thanks, in part, to the new working arrangement.  Things got off to a slightly slow start on Sunday, coming in just over 6000 steps.  Monday came up big, finishing over 11,300 steps, thanks to walking back and forth between plazas at work multiple times.  Tuesday was another strong day, coming in over 9600.  Wednesday was slightly lower, finishing a whole 209 steps beneath Tuesday’s total.  Thursday was the low day of the work week, falling just short of 7900 steps.  Friday was the big day of the week, combining a morning of work, an afternoon on the golf course with IBM, and night in the city with Val for a Sharp Objects event.  All together, I ended up with just over 13,000 steps.  Saturday used a trip down to Guaranteed Rate Field for a mere 6500 steps.

A good week that started slow but finished strong.  The week got off to a bad start on Sunday, staying inside all day and ending up with only 2300 steps.  The bounce back started on Monday, where I surpassed 9000 steps thanks to multiple jaunts around the workplace.  Tuesday was another bad day, falling a mere 343 steps under goal, despite a post-work dinner with Jeff and a car accident for Tom.  Wednesday made up for that slightly, coming in at 7100 steps.  Thursday was the big day of the week, with a meeting with IBM in the morning followed by my first trip down to Guaranteed Rate Field for the White Sox home opener.  Friday came close to tying it, with 2 trips over to North and a post-work dinner putting me at 9800 steps.  Saturday was another trip to the South Side for exciting baseball, coming in over 7700 steps.

Fitbit Week 7

Week7_FBAnother impressive week, which featured my first 10,000 step day since acquiring the Fitbit nearly 2 months ago.  The week got off to its usual slow start on Sunday, although it was pretty close to 5000 steps.  The entire work week was above average, with the worst day still coming in at over 6700 steps.  Tuesday crossed the 10,000 step plateau for the first time thanks to multiple meetings in North Plaza with IBM, along with the usual afternoon coffee run.  Things went south on Saturday to wrap up the week, as I was trying to nip a cold in the bud before leaving on vacation tomorrow.

Fitbit Week 6

Week6_FBAnother decent week, though a steep drop off from the week before.  The weather finally turned a corner last week, and every day was above freezing, even getting into the 60s by the end of the week.  Unfortunately, I was not able to take advantage of most of it, due to the combined efforts of IBM and a release, which kept me busy all week.  The weekends continue to be a dead zone, but hopefully that will improve next month with baseball season upon us.
