Fitbit VII – Week 39

Another disappointing week, though I did manage to get back up over 30,000 steps.  Things got off to what passes for a decent enough start on Sunday, as I finished 20 steps shy of 4600.  Monday was slightly better, as I got outside for a walk around the block which helped put me over 5200 steps.  Tuesday fell off a bit, coming just 22 steps away from 4000.  Wednesday, as usual, was the worst day of the week, falling down to 3000 steps.  Thursday saw a healthy increase, jumping back up to 4700 steps.  Friday was even better, thanks to a day off and a trip down to the south side for lunch at Ricobene’s and some walking around Armour Square Park and Guaranteed Rate Field, finishing only 34 steps shy of 6900.  Saturday was a bust of a day, with only 3300 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 36

I’m slightly down from last week, but still managed to stay over 30,000 steps for a third week in a row, which is what passes for an accomplishment these days.  Things got off to a slow-ish start on Sunday, as I managed 4100 steps while recuperating from the day before.  Monday was the high point of the week, surpassing 8000 steps thanks to Family Night at Wrigley Field.  Tuesday was Jose Abreu bobblehead night at Guaranteed Rate Field, which pushed me to 6000 steps.  Wednesday was a complete and total bust, falling down to 3000 steps.  Thursday saw a slight improvement, as I finished 2 steps shy of 3900.  Friday dropped me back down to 2500 steps.  A rainy Saturday left me with 18 steps away from 3900.

Fitbit VII – Week 32

A disappointing, if misleading, week, thanks to some unforeseen circumstances.  The week got off to a strong enough start on Sunday, as the White Sox and Cubs wrapped up their crosstown series at Guaranteed Rate Field and I finished 11 steps shy of 5500.  Monday, I brought my car in for service (this will become important later) and ended the day with 3900 steps.  Tuesday was a bit worse, as I came in with 2500 steps.  Wednesday, with my Fitbit charger still in my car from vacation, my battery died overnight, leaving me with only 86 steps.  I got my car back on Thursday, letting me recharge and capturing 2200 steps once that was complete.  Friday continued the disappointment, finishing 9 steps shy of 3800 while Saturday was a near duplicate, with 13 steps over 3800.

Fitbit VII – Week 31

A pretty decent week, all things considered, as I notched my first 10,000 step day since May.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as I made a return trip to Tropicana Field to watch a horrible baseball game, finishing with 5100 steps.  Things improved a bit on Monday, as I relaxed for my last day in Florida and chalked up 5400 steps.  On Tuesday morning, I hopped in the car and headed to Atlanta, where an ill-advised uphill walk to Truist Park to watch the Braves and the Yankees put me 10 steps shy of 10,900.  I left Atlanta on Wednesday and headed for home, which left me with only 4700 steps.  Going back to work on Thursday left me with a depressing 3500 steps.  The return of crosstown baseball on Friday lifted me back up to 4600 steps.  The return trip to Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday was another improvement, leaving me 4 steps away from 5500.

Keeping Our Eyes On Next Year’s Prize

With a little more than 8 weeks remaining in the 2020 season, Major League Baseball released their tentative 2021 schedule yesterday.  For the first time in quite a while, the White Sox will be looking to compete for a title while the Cubs will be “retooling” after trading off all of their stars last week.  Assuming, of course, that the 2022 season goes off as planned and the end of the collective bargaining agreement doesn’t lead to a long work stoppage.  So, for one day, at least, let’s turn our attention to next summer for both teams.

The White Sox open their season at home against the Twins on March 31 for a three game tilt before heading on the road.  Nothing like a potential snowstorm to get the season off to a good start.  They face the Guardians for the first time on April 18 in Cleveland.

The interleague schedule pits the White Sox against the NL West, with trips to San Francisco, Colorado, and San Diego and home series against the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Rockies. The rivalry with their north side foes continues with a 2-game series at Wrigley at the beginning of May and a follow-up at Guaranteed Rate Field Memorial Day weekend.

The season ends with a 6 game road trip to Minnesota and San Diego.

On the north side, the Cubs open their season up on the road in Cincinnati, also on March 31.  They come home the following Monday to open their home slate against the Cardinals.

The interleague schedule pits the Cubs against the AL East, with trips to Baltimore, New York, and Toronto and home series against the Rays, Red Sox, and Orioles.

Of their 28 games in September/October, only 7 are against their NL Central rivals, though, with the Cubs not likely to contend, that shouldn’t make much of a difference.  They end the year with a 6 game homestand, facing the Phillies and the Reds.

Fitbit VII – Week 27

A step back in the wrong direction this week.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I managed a mere 3600 steps.  Monday was slightly better, as I finished 5 steps shy of 4300.   Tuesday fell off even more, as I finished with only 3300 steps.  Wednesday was the low point of the week, as I just eked past 3000 steps.  Thursday was a little better, jumping back up to 3800 steps.  Friday saw a big jump, up to 6000 steps, thanks to Elvis night at the old ballyard.  A return trip to Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday left me 8 steps shy of 6600.

Fitbit VII – Week 26

We reach the midway point of year 7 with a Fitbit with my best week in nearly 2 months.  Things got off to a better than average start on Sunday, as I traveled to Guaranteed Rate field and finished with 6100 steps.  Monday saw a slight drop off, but still managed to finish with over 5500 steps.  Tuesday fell off even more, as I finished 17 steps shy of 4200.  Another game on Wednesday pushed me back over 6100 steps.  Thursday was back down again, as I managed just 4200 steps.  Friday was the low point of the week, with a disappointing 3100 steps.  Saturday put me over my 7500 step goal for the first time since June 1, thank to a combo of a Cubs game, dinner at Palermo’s, and a trip to Oberweis for ice cream.

Fitbit VII – Week 25

An improvement over last week, though still well below where I want to be.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as I finished with 4900 thanks to my first post-pandemic trip to the movie theater to see Black Widow.  Monday improved that total just a bit, up 42 steps.  Tuesday started PI Planning, so I fell back down to 3400 steps.  Wednesday was back up a bit, to 3700 steps.  Thursday was even better, as I managed to get up over 4600 steps.  Friday was my first game of the second half, which left me with the evil looking total of 6,666 steps.  A return trip to Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday put me one step over 5600.

Fitbit VII – Week 23

Another slight improvement, as things continue to move in the right direction, even if they are still well below where I want to be.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I finished 1 steps shy over 4600 thanks to Lucas Giolito bobblehead day and a double header at the old ballpark.  Monday improved a bit, up to 4700.  Tuesday fell back down, as I barely managed to pass 4400 steps.  Wednesday saw a big improvement, as I was off work and ran some errands which got me all the way up to 5700 steps.  Thursday was even better, as another trip to Guaranteed Rate Field put me up over 6500 steps.  Friday fell off quite a bit, as I dropped down to 3700 steps.  A day of leisure on Saturday put me back over 4000 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 22

Well, things are starting to move in the right direction again, as I passed 30,000 steps for the first time in 3 weeks.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I finished 27 steps shy of 4000.  Monday came 3 steps shy of 4600.  Tuesday fell back down, as I barely managed to pass 4000 steps.  Wednesday saw a big improvement, all the way up to 5000 steps.  Thursday fell back again, down to 4300  steps.  Friday was the best day of the week, as I earned 5800 steps thanks to a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field.  A return trip on Saturday, with plenty of rain, gave me only 5000 steps.
