Fitbit VII – Week 21

Another disappointing week, again in more ways than one.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as I somehow managed to get 4600 steps.  Monday came 50 steps shy of 7000 thanks to a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field to see the White Sox lose to the Rays.  Tuesday then fell off completely, as I barely managed to pass 1700 steps.  Wednesday saw a slight improvement, all the way up to 2300 steps.  Thursday continued the long climb back up to respectability, with 3500.  Things fell apart again on Friday, as I dropped to 2700 steps despite a lunch time trip to Superdawg.  A trip to Oakbrook on Saturday to see a Sistine Chapel exhibit moved me all the way up to 4700 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 19

A move in the right direction this week, thanks in part to multiple baseball related outings.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as I traveled to Guaranteed Rate field and finished with 4700 steps.  I celebrated the Memorial Day holiday on Monday with a trip to Wrigley Field, which left me with 6400 steps.  Tuesday’s return trip to Wrigley Field left me over goal with 7600 steps.  Left to my own devices on Wednesday, I managed only 5200 steps.  Thursday was the lowest day of the week, but still had 4400 steps.  Friday was back over 5000 steps, thanks to a trip out with friends after work.  Saturday sent me back to the ballpark followed by a trip out for dinner, ending with 5700 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 18

A downturn this week, despite multiple baseball related outings.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as I finished 21 steps shy of 5500.  Monday was a little bit better, coming in with 4700 steps.  Tuesday’s trip to Guaranteed Rate Field to see the Cardinals and the White Sox left me over goal with nearly 7900 steps.  The return trip on Wednesday afternoon put me at only 4200 steps.  Thursday fell all the way back down to 3150 steps.  Friday, with rains in the forecast all day, was even worse, finishing with only 2900 steps.  Saturday’s return trip to the south side for a double header put me at 5300 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 17

Things continue to trend in the right direction, as I managed to post my first 10,000 step day and my first 40,000 step week since March.  The week got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as the final day of my 7 games in 6 days week at Guaranteed Rate Field left me 6 steps over 6000.  Monday fell off a bit, coming in 8 steps shy of 4800.  Tuesday was the low point of the week, finishing with a mere 3100 steps.  A trip to Wrigley Field after work on Wednesday put me over goal, finishing with 8300 steps.  Thursday fell back down again, with only 4200 steps.  Friday saw an increase up to 5500 steps.  Saturday’s trip to Brookfield Zoo put me 20 steps shy of 10,900.

Fitbit VII – Week 16

Things are trending upwards, as I managed to finish above goal twice during the week.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I finished the day with only 2700 steps.  Monday saw an improvement, climbing up to 4000 steps.  Tuesday was the start of my week of baseball and I used a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field to finish over goal with 7600 steps.  Wednesday I returned to the ballpark, but had slightly worse results, finishing with only 7000 steps.  Thursday was a day game, which left me with only 5300 steps.  A double header on Friday meant two trips down the ramps down the first base line, which put me back over my goal, with just over 7500 steps.  Saturday fell back down again, as my 6th game in 5 days left me at 5300 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 14

A slight bounce back this week, though still a disappointing finish.  Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday, as a trip down to Guaranteed Rate Field left me 6 steps shy of 5800.  Monday was slightly better, coming in above 6100 steps as the weather started to turn more spring-like.  Tuesday was the nicest day of the week, both weather wise and step wise, as I managed to surpass my daily goal with 7600 steps.  Wednesday was a down day, with only 3700 steps.  Thursday bounced back a bit, as I raised that step total to 5100.  Friday was easily the worst day of the week, with only 3300 steps.  Saturday used another trip to the old ballpark to finish with 5500 steps.

Fitbit VII – Week 12

An overall disappointing week, despite managing to get out of the house once or twice for some baseball.  The week started off decently on Sunday, as a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field followed by Michael’s birthday celebration left me with 5200 steps.  Monday was the high point of the week, as I combined a trip to CVS for vaccine shot #2 with another game to surpass my daily goal of 7500 steps.  Tuesday, I was feeling the after-effects of either the shot or the late night cold game, so I dropped back down to 4200 steps.  I was feeling better on Wednesday, but meetings limited me to just 2700 steps.  An off day on Thursday for a day game for the White Sox against the Indians left me with 5500 steps.  Friday fell back down a bit, with only 3900 steps.  Saturday was a waste, finishing with a mere 2200 steps.

Oh No-No

Last December, after 6 years of injuries and unmet expectations, the White Sox cut ties with Carlos Rodon, their first round pick in the 2014 draft.  On February 1, they brought him back, at a reduced rate, as back of the rotation insurance.  After a strong spring, he beat our Reynaldo Lopez for the fifth starter’s spot.  Last night, in his second start of the season, he was perfect through 25 hitters against the Indians and, after a hit batsman, ended up with the 20th no hitter in White Sox history.

This should have been my first no hitter seen in person.  But, and you knew there was going to be a but, life somehow got in the way.  I had bought tickets to the entire first homestand, so that wasn’t the issue.  Monday afternoon, I got my second vaccine shot and then headed down to Guaranteed Rate Field for that night’s game.  Ironically, Rodon was scheduled to pitch Monday, but was scratched with a stomach bug.  Tuesday, I was feeling the after-effects of the shot, the night out in the cold, or both, with a fuzzy head, chills, and body aches.  I decided to skip Tuesday night’s game.  By Wednesday morning, I was feeling pretty normal, but, with a forecast game-time temperature in the 40s, I decided to play it safe and stay home once again.  A mistake that I will have to live with for the rest of my days.

Fitbit VII – Week 11

A decent pandemic week, though still quite shy of my goal.  Things got off to a good start on Sunday, as a trip in to Chicago to celebrate birthdays with Val and Daryl put me over 7500 steps.  Monday and Tuesday were slight disappointments, as I finished over 7000 and 7100 steps respectively, but couldn’t get those few additional steps to put me over goal.  Things fell off on Wednesday, as I dropped down to 4000 steps due to meeting after meeting after meeting.  Thursday saw a bit of a bounce back, thanks to the White Sox home opener and my triumphant return to Guaranteed Rate Field, leaving me with 6400 steps.  Friday was a little worse, with only 4800 steps.  A rainout on Saturday kept me home all day, which left me only 3 steps shy of 2400.

The Fans Are Back

After a year with no fans in the stands due to the corona virus, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced yesterday that fans can return for 2021 starting on Opening Day with 20% capacity.  That will put 8,122 fans at Guaranteed Rate Field when the White Sox open their home season on April 8th and 8,274 fans at Wrigley Field when the Cubs start their season on April 1.  Fans will still be required to wear masks and there must be at least six feet between groups in the stands.

Both teams plan to limit sales to season ticket holders initially, before moving out to the general public.  In an email to season ticket holders, the Cubs announced that April games will be either refunded or credited, with an option to purchase single game tickets in pods of one through four people spread throughout the ballpark, including reserved seating in the bleachers.  The White Sox have not released specific information yet, though  I imagine my 19 year White Sox Opening Day streak is in jeopardy.
