Fitbit III: Week 22

Another decent week, my second straight back over 50,000 steps.  The week got off to what is starting to be a typical slow start, as I just managed to get past 5000 steps on Sunday despite going to Guaranteed Rate Field to watch the White Sox.  Monday was the big day of the week, as I walked over to Willow for my biometric screening and then did some additional walking during the day to make up for my poor numbers.  Tuesday was another big day, surpassing 9200 steps, thanks to another trip to the South side after work to see the Yankees battle the Pale Hose.  Wednesday just barely managed to surpass 6500 steps, due to a post-work trip to CarMax to see what, if anything, the Prius was worth.  Thursday had a trip to North plaza and an extra trip back and forth to the car to make up its total of 8800 steps.  Friday was just shy of 7400 steps, thanks to work, a trip to Tesla to pick up my new car, and then a wake.  Saturday eked past my step goal by 27 steps, aided in part by a third trip to the ballyard.

Fitbit III: Week 21

An up and down week, with 2 below goal days wiped out thanks to one tremendous day.  The week got off to a slow start on Sunday, where, for the third week in a row, I failed to reach my daily goal to start the week off.  Monday and Tuesday did little to make up the difference, as both days just eked by the 6500 step total.  Wednesday turned things around, as a day of work followed up by a 2 hour walk to Starbucks and back gave me my 6th highest total ever, with 18,290 steps.  Thursday continued the good times with just over 8000 steps, thanks to a post-work trip to the Glen for dinner with Val.  Friday was the second below-goal day of the week.  Saturday just surpassed the 6500 step goal thanks to a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field to see Mark Buehrle’s jersey retirement.

Fitbit III: Week 18

A third straight week over 50,000 steps, and my streak of days over goal reached 24.  The week got off to a decent enough start on Sunday and Monday, with both days using trips to Guaranteed Rate field to push me over my daily goal.  Tuesday was the big day of the week, my first day over 10,000 since the end of April thanks to an after-work trip back to Guaranteed Rate field for Chris Sale’s return to Chicago.  Wednesday and Thursday were nothing special, both just barely managing to pass my daily goal of 6500 steps.  Friday used a pre-lunch walk followed by an after-work followup to post the second best day of the week at just over 9000 steps.  Saturday was spent going back and forth between the garage and the basement as the new plug was installed in preparation for my new car.

Fitbit III: Week 17

Another week back over 50,000 steps and another week with all 7 days above goal, running my total to 17.  Things got off to a decent start on Sunday, thanks to trips to 2 grocery stores.  The work week started with 3 days of training, which had me working from home, which is normally a problem.  Good weather on Monday let me take an after work walk which led to the highest day of the week.  Tuesday and Wednesday both suffered from rain, so they did not get as high.  Thursday was back in the office, and I somehow managed to surpass 8000 steps.  Friday was the kickoff to the long weekend, and I managed to just surpass my daily goal.  Saturday had a double header at Guaranteed Rate Field, where I was able to cross the 7000 step plateau while taking in the split between the White Sox and the Tigers.

Fitbit III: Week 13

We are one step closer to tying last summer’s record of 14 straight 50,000 step weeks, thanks to my highest total in 4 weeks.  Things got off to a strong start on Sunday, thanks to a tilt between the White Sox and Indians at Guaranteed Rate Field followed by Michael’s birthday celebration at Outback Steakhouse.  Monday scored an impressive total of over 12,000 steps, thanks to an after-work session trying to get the Mercury out of the garage and running again.  Tuesday was even better, falling less than 200 steps short of 13,000 due to another trip to the South Side, minus a parking pass.  Wednesday fell back down to my goal territory, despite trips to Target and Meijer for car fluids.  Thursday had a bit of a bounce back up nearly 9000 steps, thanks to a trip to North plaza and a few smoking breaks with Val.  Friday broke 7300 steps, with more car work.  The weather turned bad on Saturday, as rain kept me inside most of the day, leading to a disappointing total of 3100 steps.

Fitbit III: Week 12

My streak of 50,000+ step weeks hits 12 and closes on in last summer’s record of 14 straight weeks.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday thanks to Easter activities, which left me just under 2500 steps.  A big bounce back once the work week got under way, as I put together a streak of 3 10,000 step days.  Monday benefited from a midday escape to bowl with my friends from the lab.  Tuesday had a lunch meeting in North plaza, which helped boost my total.  Wednesday was more time spent with my lab friends, including a game (or 2) of ping pong.  Thursday surpassed 9000 steps, thanks to more time up in the lab and then an after work farewell to Hayley.  Friday managed to just surpass 6500 steps, thanks to more time spent in the lab with Val.  Saturday finished with a little more thanks to the White Sox/Indians tilt at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Fitbit III: Week 11

The good times continue, as my streak of 50,000 step weeks hits 11 and a new streak of days over goal makes it to 7.  The week got off to a decent start on Sunday, thanks to a trip down to Guaranteed Rate Field followed by a trek out to Medieval Times to celebrate Hayley’s birthday.  Monday was the big day of the week, as I went down to Wrigley Field for the raising of the Cubs World Series banner at their home opener.  Tuesday barely managed to get past my daily step goal, thanks in part to the late night the day before and the need for sleep.  I worked from home on Wednesday, which ordinarily would have been a down day, but another Cubs game pushed me well across my goal.  Thursday was another close one, again due to the need for sleep.  Friday used a trip over to North Plaza for coffee to get over the hump.  Saturday was my second highest day of the week, thanks to yet another Cub game followed by some grocery shopping.

Fitbit III: Week 10

Another good week, though not as good as the last few weeks thanks to the end of the Jiff step challenge and my streak of consecutive days over goal came to an end at a record breaking 75 days.  Things got off to a decent start on Sunday thanks to some neighborhood treks which got me over 7000 steps.  Monday was the scheduled start of the baseball season, but rain meant I spent a lot of time pacing the 300 level of Guaranteed Rate Field, putting me over 9500 steps.  Tuesday was back to work in the morning and then an afternoon trip back to Guaranteed Rate Field for the make-up Opening Day.  Wednesday parlayed a trip to North Plaza in to nearly 8000 steps.  Thursday just barely managed to meet the daily goal, finishing a mere 45 steps above 6500.  Friday was a nice bounce back day thanks to a lunch time spent shooting baskets and a release which kept me up all night.  Saturday was the downer of the week, as my streak of being above goal came to an end, despite being awake until 6 AM and then going back to the south side for more baseball.

New South Side Food Stuffs

The name on the front of the building isn’t the only new thing that will be waiting for the White Sox and their fans when the 2017 season opens on Monday.  Earlier today, they announced the new food offerings that will be available at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Things to look forward to are smoked brisket and BBQ pulled pork, which will be available on all levels of the ballpark.  The Beggars Pizza pub in left field will offer a deep dish option.  Mini donuts, topped with either cinnamon or powdered sugar, along with a caramel praline ice cream bar highlight the new dessert choices.

With the change in beer sponsorships, the former Bullpen Sports Bar will now be known as the Craft Kave, featuring 75 different beer choices.  A new bar area on the left field concourse will be named Casa Modelo, as part of a new marketing agreement with Modelo Especial.

RIP US Cellular Field

uscellular-fieldYesterday, US Cellular Field officially was rechristened as Guaranteed Rate Field, ending a 14 year run for the wireless telecom company as the naming rights holder for the home of the Chicago White Sox.  In that time, I saw 414 games at the park, including a Marlins home game in 2004 due to Hurricane Ivan and post-season play in 2000, 2005 and 2008.
