New South Side Food Stuffs

The name on the front of the building isn’t the only new thing that will be waiting for the White Sox and their fans when the 2017 season opens on Monday.  Earlier today, they announced the new food offerings that will be available at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Things to look forward to are smoked brisket and BBQ pulled pork, which will be available on all levels of the ballpark.  The Beggars Pizza pub in left field will offer a deep dish option.  Mini donuts, topped with either cinnamon or powdered sugar, along with a caramel praline ice cream bar highlight the new dessert choices.

With the change in beer sponsorships, the former Bullpen Sports Bar will now be known as the Craft Kave, featuring 75 different beer choices.  A new bar area on the left field concourse will be named Casa Modelo, as part of a new marketing agreement with Modelo Especial.

Food-a-palooza

baconIn addition to the previously announced change in pizza vendors, the White Sox have a few other interesting new food items on tap for the 2014 season.  The ones available to me that I won’t be particularly interested in are a pork chop sandwich, an adobe mango chicken sausage, a supreme corned beef sandwich, an ultimate turkey club, and a host of new beer offerings.

The switch to Beggars Pizza means that I will be purchasing pizza at the ballpark for the first time in years.  In addition to that, there will be the intriguing bacon on a stick, a thick cut, premium slice of Danish bacon seasoned with black pepper.  Depending on the cost, this could become a new favorite.

chickenwaffleFor the lucky folks who are able to access the Club Level, Diamond Suite, or Stadium Club, there are a few more new offerings that seem appealing, but will stay just out of reach.  First off is a chicken and waffle sandwich, a crispy cornflake breaded chicken served between two house-made waffles and brushed with honey butter and maple syrup.  Next, for the low price of $17 comes the banana split sundae helmet, featuring four scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream and drizzled with caramel and strawberry sauces and chocolate syrup then topped with whipped cream and cherries.  This three pound creation would be an occasional treat if I had access to those special areas of the park.  I guess it is better for both my wallet and my waistline that I do not.

Get Your Pizza Here

2014pizzaThe concessions landscape has been upended at both local stadiums as both the Cubs and the White Sox are expected to have new pizza vendors this season.  After 3 seasons of D’Agostino’s pizza, which I somehow never managed to try, the Cubs announced yesterday that Giordano’s is the new exclusice “pizza partner” of both the Cubs and Wrigley Field.

Meanwhile, the scuttlebutt out of Sox Fest is that Beggars Pizza will be taking over for (shudder) DiGiornos on the South Side this season.  If so, this would be a major upgrade.  My pizza consumption at US Cellular Field had dropped to nothing due to the horribleness that was the frozen, grocery store pizza.  If the rumors are true, I might actually enjoy a slice at the old ballpark this season, something that hasn’t happened since at least 2012, if not earlier.
