Ballpark Tour: Rockies

With the offseason underway, we continue our tour of all of the different baseball stadiums I’ve been to over the years. This week, we head west to Denver for a look at the Colorado Rockies. So, without further ado, let’s take a deeper look at my history with Coors Field.

Stadium Name: Coors Field

Years in Service: 1995 – Present

Visits: 2

After spending their first two seasons at Mile High Stadium, the Rockies moved to their own ballpark, the first baseball-only park opened in the National League since Dodger Stadium in 1962.  During construction of the park, numerous dinosaur fossils were found, eventually leading to the creation of the team’s mascot Dinger, a purple triceratops.  Coors Field has hosted two All-Star Games, in 1998 and again in 2021.

A quick trip to Denver in 2022 saw me taking in two games versus the White Sox.  I arrived in town on a Tuesday afternoon, heading to the ballpark for a night game in the Rockies’ club level.  The White Sox managed to pull out a squeaker, winning 2-1.  I returned to the ballpark the following afternoon, sitting on the first level down the third base line.  Things did not go as well for the White Sox this day, as the Rockies managed to score late to take the game 6-5.

Games Per Stadium By Year

With the 2023 season officially in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look at the number of games I’ve attended each year at one of the now-29 different stadiums I’ve visited over the years.

2022: The Year In Travel

After two years of limited travel due to COVID, things opened up once again in 2022 and I actually found myself on an airplane or two throughout the year.  I thought it would be nice to look back at the trips I took this year.  Things started in late January, when I went to Hawaii for two weeks.  Things were still pretty locked down on the islands at the time, so I didn’t do a lot of activities, but a week relaxation at the beach and the pool followed by a second week of working remotely followed by afternoons at the beach did the body (and the mind) good.

The next trip came at the end of May, as the family headed to Boston for Angelina’s graduation.  The boys and I arrived late Friday night, where we basically went straight from the airport to the hotel to sleep.  On Saturday, we did some sight-seeing.  Sunday was graduation, followed by a celebratory dinner.  We all headed home on Monday, save Angelina.

At the end of July, I headed out to Denver for a quick trip to add a new stadium to my collection.  I arrived on Tuesday and high-tailed it out to Coors Field for that evening’s game, which the White Sox won against the hometown Rockies.  The follow-up the next afternoon was not as pleasant, after which I headed back to the airport for the flight home.

August brought a road trip to Indianapolis, to see Danny perform with the Troopers drum corps at the DCI World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium.  What was supposed to be a two-night stay turned into three, when the Troopers unexpectedly made it to the finals. Continue reading →

Travelling The 50 States – Colorado

Over my 47 years, I’ve done my fair share of travelling across these United States.  I thought it would be an interesting experiment go look back at those trips to each of the 31 states I have visited (62% isn’t bad, is it?) and see if, and when, I may be returning.  Working in alphabetical order, we start today with the 38th state to be added to the Union: Colorado.

State: Colorado
Joined the Union: 1876
Visits: 1

The Centennial State is the latest state I have visited, making my first, and only, so far, visit last month.

A few weeks back, I made a quick 36-hour trip to Denver to see the White Sox battle the Rockies.  I flew in on a Tuesday afternoon, with a night game on tap.  The White Sox managed to eke out a squeaker and all was well in the world.

The following day, I checked out of the hotel and headed back to Coors Field for an afternoon tilt.  This time, fortune favored the Rockies in a higher scoring affair that ended with a walk-off hit.  After going back to the hotel to pick up my bag, I took the long trip the airport, where I found out that my flight, scheduled for late at night as it was, was delayed for another hour.  Good times.

Will I return?  I would assume so.  Outside of baseball, there is much that Denver, and Colorado, has to offer.

FB8 – Week 27

We start the second half of the year with a nice bounce back week, thanks to a midweek trip to Denver.  Things got off to a pretty decent start on Sunday, as I finished 12 steps below 5700 thanks to an afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Monday fell off quite a bit, dropping down to 2600 steps.  Tuesday was the high point of the week, thanks to a trip to the airport and then a White Sox/Rockies game at Coors Field, leaving me with 8700 steps, the best day of the week.  Another afternoon in Denver and at Coors Field on finished at 8200 steps, my second straight day over goal.  Thanks in part to an early morning arrival at O’Hare on Thursday, I was able to come 16 steps away from 4500.  Friday was another disappointing day, coming in 7 steps shy of 2900.  Another White Sox game on Saturday pushed me back up over 5800 steps.

Total steps: 38,522

Daily average: 5503.1
