Changes On The Dial

wgn9For the first time since 1995, WGN will be an independent television station this fall after announcing that they were not renewing their contract with the CW.  Starting September 1, CW programming will move to WPWR, owned by Fox.  WGN was the flagship station when the WB network launched in 1995 and became Chicago’s CW affiliate when the WB merged with UPN in 2006.

What does this mean for viewers?  Initially, not much, beyond some schedule stability.  CW programming won’t have to compete with live sporting events on WGN anymore and WGN won’t have to farm out a certain number of its sporting events to other stations.  So no more Saturday night episodes of The Flash and more White Sox and Cubs games back on WGN.  Long term?  Well, I’ve already seen one article calling for the return of The Bozo Show.  I guess anything is possible.

What Else Do I Have To Say

CBS-Screen-shot50 years ago, the nation lost a little more of its innocence when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas by Lee Harvey Oswald.  Today, we mourn the loss of the last president, to date, to die in office and the first president of the television era.  While conspiracy theorists continue to try and shift the blame off of Oswald and on to the CIA, Fidel Castro, the Russians, LBJ, and, possibly, Bozo the Clown, the allure of what might have been continues to hold sway over our country.

30 Day Music Challenge Day 16 – A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate

Not the song, so much, as the band.  At some point, Billy Corgan started to take himself just a little too seriously and it just killed any goodwill I had towards the Smashing Pumpkins and their previous output.  It started with his rants against pop music when kids decided they would rather listen to Britney Spears than whatever crap album he had out at the time, continued to his inserting himself into the final episode of The Bozo Show, and culminated with his singing of the 7th inning stretch at game 7 of the 2003 NLCS, saying that even if the Cubs lost the game, everyone would still love them.
