Today’s question comes from reader Jerome L. Horwitz, who asks:

In Major League Baseball, does a non-inning-ending force play increase a batter’s on-base percentage (OBP)? Stoney never answers my e-mails.

Well, Jerome, according to my inside sources at MLB, on-base percentage is a measure of how often a batter reaches base for any reason other than a fielding error, fielder’s choice, dropped/uncaught third strike, fielder’s obstruction, or catcher’s interference.  So, to answer your question, no, it does not.
