Spring Fever

As we kick off Michael’s birthday month, we look back at a collage of him sleeping in cars during the previous year.  After contracting COVID late in 2020, his energy levels have been a bit off, and he has had a tendency to sleep way too many hours in the day.  Including on our way to the Museum of Science and Industry, a tilt between the White Sox and the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, and Purdue/Northwestern football game at Wrigley Field.

Fitbit VII – Week 28

An up-and-down week, as I started off slow, but finished strong with 3 straight days over goal for the first time since March.  Things got off to a slow start on Sunday, as I came 18 steps shy of 2200.  Monday was better, as I jumped all the way up to nearly 4100 steps.   Tuesday was even better, with over 5000 steps.  Wednesday fell back down again, coming in 5 steps away from 2600.  Things took a turn for the better starting on Thursday, thanks to a trip to the Museum of Science & Industry, which put me at 7600 steps.  Friday was pretty steady, finishing one step past 7600, thanks to the start of crosstown battles at Wrigley Field.  A haircut and game 2 of hostilities between the White Sox and the Cubs put me over 7500 steps on Saturday.

Fitbit III: Week 50

For the first time in 8 weeks, I surpassed my weekly goal.  Things got off to a good start on Sunday, as I notched my first 10,000 step day of 2018, thanks to a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry with Danny.  The work week got off to a decent enough start on Monday, finishing over 7200 steps.  Tuesday was a down day, as I finished below 5200 steps.  Wednesday was a nice bounce back, coming in over 7500 steps.  Thursday and Friday used coffee trips to surpass 7000 steps.  Saturday was a downer of a day, coming in just over 3000 steps.

Harvest Moon

IMG_2221We celebrate October with a picture of Angelina from last October, as she opened her birthday gifts as Michael looks on.  In addition to this, we have a look back through the years, with her as a baby, a toddler at Christmas time, on a trip to Sesame Street Live, a post-2005 trip to US Cellular Field, and, finally, a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry.

GlobalFit III: Week 21

Y3Week21Thanksgiving week was mostly a bust.  Monday and Tuesday were mostly spent with Danny and Michael, who had the whole week off from school.  Monday we went to Enchanted Castle, where our dreams of indoor miniature golf were dashed by recent renovations that removed the indoor miniature golf.  Tuesday was spent at the Museum of Science & Industry, as we previously discussed.  Wednesday’s big trip was to the grocery store in preparation of Thanksgiving.  The day itself was spent at home watching a 3 Stooges marathon.  Friday and Saturday seem pretty similar, though there was still very little activity.

Where Free Equals $95

msi_teslaWith both myself and Danny and Michael having the whole week off, we headed down to the Museum of Science and Industry today.  Due to my employer’s generous donations, our entrance to the museum was supposed to be gratis.  However, there seems to have been some changes at the museum since my last visit.  I expected to have to pay an additional fee for the visiting Disney exhibit, and the U-505 submarine tour was last minute audible that also added an additional cost.  Needing a ticket for the coal mine exhibit, however, was an unexpected change.  The three tickets for the three of us totaled $75.  Not to mention parking, which added another $20, and our free trip the museum was now just under $100.

That said, I can say that we all had a good time exploring the museum.  The time saved in not having to wait in a huge line for the coal mine may have even been worth the added cost.  The weather exhibit, sponsored by my employer, continued to be a big hit with the younger crowd, especially the Tesla coil demonstration.  The tour of the captured German U-boat was my first time on the submarine since I was in grade school, and the guided tour was performed flawlessly.  In our trip through the chick hatchery, we even got to see a newly hatched chicken, which was causing quite a ruckus among the crowd.

The Walt Disney exhibit, sadly, might have been the big disappointment of the day, though through no fault of its own.  There was a very similar exhibit at Disney World which we saw earlier this year, so most of the information and memorabilia were of the same vein, if not exactly the same.  For anyone who hasn’t taken a trip to Orlando within the past 6 months, it might be more exciting.
