GF4 – Week 27

Y4Week27As the great poet LL Cool J once said, don’t call it a comeback!  After 10 straight weeks of sub-par totals, I put together a monster week, with my highest total since last April’s trip to San Diego.  Every day of the week finished above 6000 steps, even the weekend, where I normally fall off at this time of year.  So my last full week on the GlobalFit program was one of the best I’ve had during the whole program.  Let’s see if I can keep the streak of 6000 step days going and finish on a high note.

GF4 – Half Year Checkpoint

Y4HalfwaySunday brought about the half way point in year 4 of the great GlobalFit tracker experiment, so it is time to check in on my progress towards my goal of 2,002,000 steps, or an average of 5500 per day. One half of that total would be 1,001,000. So how did I do?

Well, over the past 10 weeks, I have done a good job of burning through whatever cushion I had built up over the previous 16 weeks.  Going back to work after the holidays, I was behind target with a week to make up the gap.  Part of me thought it wasn’t worth it, since the whole system will shut down next week, but, in the end, I figured it was worth seeing my goals through to the bitter end.

To help accomplish my goal, and put me back on track, I put in my best week since last April, when I traveled to San Diego.  Not only did I make up the amount I needed to hit the halfway point, I surpassed it by nearly 11,000 steps.  That makes me 2 for 2 in my quarterly check-ins, which is as far as this “year” will go.  Hopefully, I will be up and running again soon in a new program, and we can start this whole thing over again.

GF4 – Week 25

Y4Week25What a miserable showing for Christmas week, with my worst totals in a year.  Not one day above 5000 steps and only 2 above 4000.  Tuesday included a trip to the office, which you would think would have gotten me a little more than the barely 3000 steps I accomplished.  Christmas Eve through Boxing Day were complete wastes.  The weekend bounced back a little, with above average days, at least recently.

GF4 – Week 24

Y4Week24My first full week of vacation got off to a decent start Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday all coming in over the 5500 step mark.  From there, the rest of the week cratered, as Thursday and Friday fell off precipitously and the weekend, as per the recent norm, were horrible, as I didn’t even leave the house each day.

GF4 – Week 23

Y4Week23My last week of work for 2014 got off to a good start, with over 7000 steps on Monday and Tuesday and just barely missing on Wednesday, my last day.  Thursday was spent running around to get gifts and then a holiday dinner, which helped get me to nearly 6000 steps.  After that, things went downhill, as I was home and left to my own devices.

The End Of An Era

EndofGFAn issue at work forced me to log in to my email yesterday, despite being on vacation, and I saw a disturbing email: the GlobalFit Destination: You program at work is being shut down.  I had kind of expected this, but now I know that the end date is near.  January 15, just 4 days after the mid-year point of my fourth year in the program, will be the last day, with trackers and the website going inactive the following day.

This leaves me with a little less than a month to find an alternative solution, or to stop trakcing my steps until a replacement program, mentioned in the email, is in place.  iOS 8 includes a step tracker in the Health app, but I’m not a huge fan of its reporting capabilities, plus it requires me to always have my phone physically on me in order for steps to count.  Is it too late to ask for a Fitbit for Christmas?

GF4 – Week 21

Y4Week21Thanksgiving week brought a new low for the year, with only 1 day surpassing the 5500 step mark and only 2 others above 4000 steps.  Aside from Tuesday, which was the only day I was able to get out for a walk around the neighborhood, the rest of the week was a complete and utter bust, capped off by Sunday, where I didn’t even manage 1000 steps.
