Book 11 (of 52) – I Don’t Know What You Know Me From

I Don't Know What You Know Me From - Judy Greer

I Don’t Know What You Know Me From – Judy Greer

As of today, actress Judy Greer has 103 credits on IMDB, and chances are you will recognize her from one of them.  She just isn’t able to help you identify which one it is.  In her memoir, she writes of growing up in Detroit, moving to Chicago to study acting at DePaul, and eventually moving to Los Angeles, becoming a working actor if not a superstar.

I’m not sure the first time I noticed Judy Greer.  I think it was the cinematic masterpiece 13 Going On 30.  Since then, I’ve come to appreciate her work, whether in roles large or small.  Which is why I enjoyed her book, gaining some insight into what makes her tick and what it means to be a working actor, famous but not “famous”.  I look forward to enjoying more of her work in the future.

30 For 30 – Take A Train Somewhere

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThe fine folks at away.com have come up with a list of 30 Things Every Traveler Must Do Before They’re 30.  Of those 30, I’ve managed to accomplish 12 of them, or roughly 40% of them, some of which was even before I turned 30.  Today we look at #14 on their list, take a train somewhere.  Back in June of 2005, I took a trip to Italy along with about 15 other DePaul grad students.  While there, we partook in many a train ride throughout the Italian countryside.

The one that sticks out in my mind technically broke international laws.  On the way back to our home base along Lake Como, we ended up missing our stop and ended up leaving Italy and entering Switzerland… without passports.  Thankfully, an international incident was avoided and we were able to catch the next train back to Italy with little hassle.

30 Day Picture Challenge Day 12 – A Picture Of Something You Love

As a senior in high school in the fall of 1991, I applied to three colleges: Northern Illinois University, DePaul University, and Purdue University.  One year later, in the fall of 1992, I arrived in West Lafayette, Indiana, ready to matriculate as a member of the Purdue class of 1996.  Nearly 20 years later, the affection that started with an acceptance letter has grown, and continues to grow.  Whether it is the crumpled sweatshirt on the floor behind me, the recently taken pictures of me and my niece and nephews on the same fountain seen above, or the basketball tickets I just ordered last week, or the friendships I still cherish, the love is as strong today as it ever was.

30 Day Music Challenge Day 06 – A Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere

During the summer of 2005, I took a class as part of my Master’s program at DePaul that involved a trip to Italy for 10 days.  On one of our free days, we took a trip to Venice for the day.  Afterwards, after dinner and some (ok, a lot of) wine, we were heading back to our home base near Lake Como when the bus driver slipped in an Oasis CD.  We listened to, and sang along with, Champagne Supernova at least 3-4 times.  It was the type of thing that couldn’t have been planned and is one of my lasting memories of the trip.
