Well, not anymore, but back in the day. I played the organ from grade school up to the time I went away to college. This was one of many hits in my repertoire.

30 Day Music Challenge Day 25 – A Song That Makes You Laugh
The Digital Short has been one of the best parts of SNL for the past few seasons, and many of those could have taken this spot, but I went with I’m On A Boat over Natalie’s Rap mainly because it was easier to find.
I’m Riding High Upon A Deep Depression
Garbage returned to Chicago Tuesday night for the first time in nearly 7 years and put on a performance that electrified the hot crowd at Metro. In stark contrast to the Fiona Apple show I saw last month, Shirley Manson owned both the stage and the crowd, even showing us her sentimental side, thanks to her monthly visitor. The group sprinkled in 5 songs from their new album while still giving the crowd the hits they had come to see.
30 Day Music Challenge Day 24 – A Song That You Want To Play At Your Funeral
At the end of the day, I guess I don’t really care what happens at my funeral, since I’ll be a little busy being dead. But, for the sake of this little endeavor, I’m going to go with this old standby from Frank Sinatra.
Mix Tape Monday Roundup
Between 1989, my sophomore year of high school, and 1995, my fourth year of college, I put together a nearly 20 volume collection of mix tapes, containing my favorite songs that I had gathered either from the radio, a cassette tape, or (eventually) CD. I thought it would be a fun exercise to look back at all 20 volumes and which of my “favorite” songs I still listen to today.
Last week, we finished up the last of the 20 volumes. The 287 songs from 144 different bands or performers have been played an average of just over 5 times each, according to my iTunes stats. Let’s take one final look back at the bands and songs that made up my youth.

30 Day Music Challenge Day 23 – A Song That You Want To Play At Your Wedding
I first came across this song on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack, and it made enough of an impression that I went out and bought the CD. Sadly, these was nothing else in the Bif Naked ouvre that hit me in quite the same way, but we will always have this tune.
30 Day Music Challenge Day 22 – A Song That You Listen To When You’re Sad
OK, it may be a little cliched at this point, and I haven’t really listened to this song at all in over a year, but it certainly fit the criteria back when it first came out.
Mix Tape Monday – Volume 20
Between 1989, my sophomore year of high school, and 1995, my fourth year of college, I put together a nearly 20 volume collection of mix tapes, containing my favorite songs that I had gathered either from the radio, a cassette tape, or (eventually) CD. I thought it would be a fun exercise to look back at all 20 volumes and which of my “favorite” songs I still listen to today.
We wrap up with Volume 20, which stretches over late 1995 and the fall semester of the first of my two senior years of college. At some point, I noticed that the tape players on my boom box were slowing down and apparently could not be repaired, which spelled the end for these collections.

Mix Tape Monday – Volume 19
Between 1989, my sophomore year of high school, and 1995, my fourth year of college, I put together a nearly 20 volume collection of mix tapes, containing my favorite songs that I had gathered either from the radio, a cassette tape, or (eventually) CD. I thought it would be a fun exercise to look back at all 20 volumes and which of my “favorite” songs I still listen to today.
Volume 19 stretches from late summer 1995 and into the fall semester of the first of my two senior years of college. Again, it mostly features what was considered alternative music, with Coolio interjecting some street flavor for good measure.

Side B
An Extraordinary Machine
Fiona Apple took the stage at the Chicago Theatre Tuesday night in support of her first album in 6 years. Never a comfortable stage performer, Apple virtually ignored the crowd for the entire show, only speaking to us after the final song was over to say thank you and good night. Beyond her awkward stage presence, including some bizarre dance routines during the musical breaks of her songs, she did put on a good performance. The voice is just as strong as it has always been and she did appear more confident in herself. Overall, a good time was had.
