Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime.  The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since.  So, given those guidelines, and thanks to a corona virus inspired uptick to my movie watching this year, it is time to look at the 100 actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of July 1.

Today, we start with the 27 actors that have starred in 10 movies that I have seen, a slight increase from the 22 at this level 3 years ago.

Jessica Alba

After a string of 8 films in 6 years in the mid 2000s, there has been nothing new for Jessica Alba since I saw her in 2010’s Valentine’s Day in 2011.

Dan Aykroyd

No change in Aykroyd’s total, with it going on 18 years since I last saw one of his starring roles.

Elizabeth Banks

Our first new entry, Banks first graced my screen in a starring role in 2006 thanks to The Baxter.  After a dry spell in the early 2010s, she bounced back with 7 films in 5 years, finishing up with 2018’s The Happytime Murders, which I saw in 2019.

Kate Beckinsale

It’s been a quiet 3 years for Beckinsale, who I last saw in Underworld: Blood Wars in early 2017.

Halle Berry

Another newcomer, who has racked up starring roles in 4 different decades now.  I first saw Berry in 1992’s Boomerang, which I saw in a screening at Stewart Center at school.  After notching 5 films during the 2000’s, she had been pretty quiet until returning to my screen earlier this year in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

Chevy Chase

No change for the SNL vet, who I last saw in 2009, when I saw 1985’s Fletch for the first time.

Jennifer Connelly

No change for the lovely Jennifer Connelly, who I last saw 8 years ago in 2008’s The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Billy Crystal

No change for the former SNL star, who I haven’t seen in a starring role in 15 years.

Zooey Deschanel

Former indie darling Zooey Deschanel remains unchanged, with no new film activity since I saw one of her films in 2011.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans first appeared on my screen in 2002 thanks to the previous year’s Not Another Teen Movie and has been a pretty steady presence ever since.  In 2011, he debuted as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger and picked up an additional 5 films for the remainder of the decade, ending with his final appearance in Avengers: End Game in 2019.  His most recent appearance is from the surprise 2019 hit Knives Out, which I saw earlier this year.

Anna Faris

Despite being the star of the franchise, Anna Faris first received top billing in 2003 for Scary Movie 3, which I saw in 2004.  From there, it was a quick rise for Faris, She scored 7 starring roles between 2007 and 2011 and then… nothing.  After a nine year gap, she finally returned to my screen earlier this year in 2018’s remake of Overboard.

Michael J. Fox

1996 remains the last time that I had a movie experience with Michael J. Fox.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Television’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been absent from my screen for quite some time, last appearing in 2015, with 2007’s Veronika Decides To Die.

Mel Gibson

The Hollywood pariah has been stuck on 10 films since 2015, when I saw him in Machete Kills.

Hugh Grant

There haven’t been many years that I’ve seen a Hugh Grant film, but, when I do, they tend to come in spurts.  My first experience with him was likely 1994’s Sirens, which I am unsure of when I actually saw it.  He notched 3 films in 2000, and 2 apiece in 2005 and 2008.  After a 12 year absence, he returned to my screen earlier this year in 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Like most people, I first saw Jake Gyllenhaal in 2001’s Donnie Darko, which I saw the following year.  That started a streak of 9 films in 11 years, followed by a 6 year dry spell.  He returned in 2018, when I saw 2017’s Life.

Melissa Joan Hart

Made-for-TV movies had been very good for Melissa Joan Hart, but 2011 remains the last time I’ve seen her in a film.

Jonah Hill

First appearing on my screen in 2007, Hill became a pretty standard presence for the following decade.  He put together a pretty impressive 5-year streak, comprising of 7 films between 2010 and 2014, and was last seen in 2014’s 22 Jump Street, which I saw in 2016.

James McAvoy

First appearing in 2008’s Wanted, McAvoy has been a surprisingly steady presence on my screen, thanks in part to the X-Men franchise.  He has an active  5-year streak going, starting in 2016 with X-Men: Apocalypse and going through 2019’s It Chapter 2, which I had the pleasure of seeing earlier this year.

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey movies tend to come in spurts for me.  Starting in 1997 with 1996’s A Time To Kill, I saw 4 of his films over 3 years.  Following a 5 year break, he returned in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, which I saw in 2005, which kicked off a streak of 5 films over the next 10 years.  After another 3 fallow years, he returned again in 2019 with Serenity.

Bill Murray

Former SNL star Bill Murray first graced my movie screen in 1984 with the smash hit Ghostbusters.  He would show up in a new project every few years, but hasn’t been seen since 2016, when I saw 2014’s St. Vincent.

Ellen Page

Page first appeared on my screen in 2006 with Hard Candy and became a breakout star the following year in Juno.  Thus began a run of 5 films in 6 years, culminating with Super in 2011.  After lying low for 5 years, she came back in a big way in 2017, when I saw both Into The Forest and An American Crime.  That started a 4-year streak, which continued earlier this year when I saw the 2017 film My Days Of Mercy.

Dennis Quaid

His last starring appearance on a screen in front of me continues to be 2008’s Vantage Point, which I saw in 2009.

Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen first popped on my radar in 2007, thanks to the big hit Knocked Up.  I saw him in 5 films between 2009 and 2011.  Since then, he has popped up every other year through 2017, then took an extra year before returning to my screen earlier this year in 2019’s Long Shot.

Ben Stiller

I still last saw Ben Stiller in 2011, when I watched Night At the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian.

Kate Winslet

Sadly, my last theatrical experience with her was in 2015, when I watched 2014’s Labor Day.

Renee Zellwegger

After some iconic supporting roles (at least in my world), Zellwegger burst through with starring roles twice in 1996, in both Shake, Rattle, & Rock and Love And A .45.  She picked up another 3 films in 2002 and seemed to wrap things up in 2006, when I saw 1999’s The Bachelor.  Then came the corona virus pandemic, and I’ve now seen 3 of her films this year, including Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, Case 39, and The Whole Truth.
