You Ought To Be In (10) Pictures

Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime. The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since. So, given those guidelines, it is time to look at all of the actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of July 1st.

Today, we start with the 22 actors that have starred in 10 movies that I have seen, a big increase from the 14 at this level 3 years ago.

Jessica Alba

There has been no change for Jessica Alba since I saw her in 2010’s Valentine’s Day in 2011.

Dan Aykroyd

No change in Aykroyd’s total, with 2002 being the last year I saw one of his starring roles.

Kate Beckinsale

Our first new entry, the comely British actress first came to my attention in 1998, when I saw her in both Cold Comfort Farm and Last Days of Disco.  Her heyday was 2006-2008, when I saw her in 4 films over the 3 year span.  2010 had been my last experience with her work, until I was coerced into seeing Underworld: Blood Wars earlier this year.

Kristen Bell

The Veronica Mars star made her first “big screen” appearance in my life with the television remake of Reefer Madness in 2005.  She’s been a pretty steady presence since, with a 2 year gap in 2015 and 2016 being her largest.  The Boss, which I saw earlier this year, is my most recent exposure to her.

Chevy Chase

No change for the SNL vet, who I last saw in 2009, when I saw 1985’s Fletch for the first time.

Jennifer Connelly

No change for the lovely Jennifer Connelly, who I last saw 8 years ago in 2008’s The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Billy Crystal

No change for the former SNL star, who I haven’t seen in a starring role in 15 years.

Zooey Deschanel

Former indie darling Zooey Deschanel remains unchanged, with no new film activity since I saw one of her films in 2011.

Leonardo DiCaprio

One of the biggest stars in the world, DiCaprio first appeared on my movie screen in 1996, with The Basketball Diaries.  After a three year run to start, I had a gap of 8 years between his films, from 2002-2009.  2011 was his most prolific year, with 3 different films.  The most recent film of his that I’ve seen was The Revenant in 2016.

Aaron Eckhart

Aaron Eckhart first showed up on the list of film actors I’ve seen way back in 1999 with Your Friends & Neighbors.  Since then, his appearances have been a little haphazard, with nothing more than 3 2-year streaks over the past 18 years.  The most recent film of his I’ve seen was 2016’s London Has Fallen, which I saw last year.

Michael J. Fox

1996 remains the last time that I had a movie experience with Michael J. Fox.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Television’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer made the jump to the big screen with I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997.  She was a pretty steady presence on my screen throughout 2008, where she hit a bit of a dry streak.  She reappeared after 7 years in 2015, with 2007’s Veronika Decides To Die.

Mel Gibson

The Hollywood pariah first appeared on my radar with Lethal Weapon 2, which I saw at some point in my youth.  8 of his films came in or before 2002, when he fell off the radar for a bit.  6 and 7 year breaks came between those and the next two films, culminating with Machete Kills, which I saw in 2015.

Melissa Joan Hart

Made-for-TV movies had been very good for Melissa Joan Hart, but 2011 remains the last time I’ve seen her in a film.

Jonah Hill

First appearing on my screen in 2007 in either Accepted or Superbad, Jonah Hill has become a pretty standard presence.  He put together a pretty impressive 5-year streak, comprising of 7 films between 2010 and 2014.  2014’s 22 Jump Street, which I saw in 2016, was his last appearance.

Hugh Jackman

After replacing Dougray Scott as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, Hugh Jackman has been a steady presence on my movie screen.  6 of those appearances have been in the X-Men universe, including his last appearance, in 2015 in 2013’s The Wolverine.

Nicole Kidman

2008 remains the last time I saw one of her films, 2007’s The Invasion.

Mila Kunis

After years on That 70’s Show, Mila Kunis first moved to my movie screen in 2003, with the unfortunate American Psycho II: All American Girl.  After a six year break, she came back with a vengeance, appearing in 7 films I saw between 2009 and 2011.  I last saw her earlier this year in 2016’s Bad Moms.

Bill Murray

Former SNL star Bill Murray first graced my movie screen in 1984 with the smash hit Ghostbusters.  He would show up in a new project every few years, most recently in 2014’s St. Vincent, which I saw in 2016.

Dennis Quaid

His last starring appearance on a screen in front of me continues to be 2008’s Vantage Point, which I saw in 2009.

Ben Stiller

I still last saw Ben Stiller in 2011, when I watched Night At the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian.

Kate Winslet

1996 first brought Kate Winslet into my life, thanks to her starring role in Jude.  She has been pretty consistent since, with multiple films in both 1998 and 2008.  My last theatrical experience with her was in 2015, when I watched 2014’s Labor Day.
