New Food Stuffs

There were plenty of articles prior to the start of the season about the new offerings at US Cellular Field and not one mentioned the Bases Loaded helmet, which has a funnel cake base topped with  a giant ice cream sundae in a full sized, inauthentic late 70s/early 80s helmet.  As you can probably guess, this was a big hit with the 12 and under crowd.

Meanwhile, most of the preseason attention was on the Irish Nacho Helmet, french fries covered with cheese, sour cream, chives, and bacon.  What everyone neglected to mention was that the helmet is just slightly larger than the mini-helmets that the normal ice cream sundaes come in.  Slightly disappointing.

Global Fit Week 9

Week 2 of vacation got off to a slow start, with a lazy Sunday and part of Labor Day Monday lounging around the house without the tracker.  Tuesday, though, once again pushes past the 10,000 step mark.  Outside of the hour on the treadmill, I don’t remember doing anything else out of the ordinary.  Thursday and Friday show that even wearing the tracker around the house doesn’t do much, as I didn’t leave the house or break 1000 steps either day.  Saturday bounced back with a nearly hour walk around the neighborhood and another trip to the Cell.

Global Fit Week 8

Vacation is over, which means this week I was back to work and able to register my steps for the past two weeks.  Monday marked my first (but not last) trip past the 10,000 step barrier.  It only took 2 months, an hour on the treadmill, and a trip to the Cell to do it.  Tuesday had a small experiment to see how riding a bike would show up.  Not well, as the barely 2000 “other activity” steps show us.  Thursday also pushed past the magical 10,000 mark, thanks to another hour on the treadmill and 3 games of bowling.  Exciting stuff.  The hard part will be keeping it up now that I am back to work and not reverting back to the old routine.

Global Fit Week 3

Week 3 showed more improvement, as I passed the 6000 step barrier for the first time on Thursday and then pushed past 9000 on Friday, thanks to the Chicago White Sox and the parking restrictions around US Cellular Field.  Saturday even logged some action due to another game.  I should pass the 100,000 total step mark this week, and my daily average currently sits at nearly 4200.

Happy 20th “Birthday” US Cellular Field

20 years ago today, the White Sox opened the home portion of their 1991 season at the brand new Comiskey Park II.  A lot has changed over the years, most noticibly the lost rows in the upper deck, the switch from blue seats to green, the revamping of the bullpens, and, of course, the name.  Here’s hoping the next 20 years are as successful, if not more.
