GFY2 – Week 47

Y2Week47The holiday week turned disappointing, with only 2 days over the 5000 step plateau.  Tuesday benefited from a post-work trip down to the Cell for a rain shortened outing.  Beyond that, nothing exciting pops out about the week.

Last Saturday, June 1 kicked off both National Great Outdoors Month and Allstate’s 1 Million Steps to Wellness.  As part of these, there are two challenges that started: 200,000 steps in the month of June and 1,000,000 steps between June and October.  200,000 steps averages out to 6,666.666666667 steps per day, which doesn’t sound too out of the question.  Hopefully, spending the next week at Disney World will give me a jump start, since I’m already 3000 steps behind after just one day.

Scoreboard Envy

scoreboards

Ever since the installation of the first exploding scoreboard at the old Comiskey Park in 1960, the White Sox and scoreboard technology have been synonymous.  However, it has been quite some time since the scoreboard at US Cellular Field has been updated, and, thanks to the news about the expected new board across town at Wrigley Field, we can see just how far the White Sox have fallen.

Ignoring the fact that it’s been about 15 years or so since the scoreboard at US Cellular Field actually showed a score, the graphic above shows that the White Sox board currently is larger than the lowly Oakland A’s, who are desperately looking for a new stadium.  Entering its 11th season, the current video board must be nearing its end of life, and one can only hope that a new board is in the cards for the near future, one which might actually let someone know what is going on in the game.

GFY2 – Week 39

Y2Week39Another pretty decent week, with 4 days over the 5000 step mark, starting with Monday’s trip to the Cell for Opening Day.  The other days made good use of trips to North Plaza , with 2 of them on Wednesday.  In other news, the grand total passed the 3,000,000 step plateau.

pt2My goal for the year was to reach 4,000,000, which leaves me with 13 weeks to get about 1,000,000 steps.  My leg issues obviously held me back, as has this unending winter that refuses to go away.

GFY2 – Week 4

After a day of rest following the 5K, it looked like a good week was in the works.  Monday started things off with a nice walk around the campus at work followed by a bowling outing with Danny and Michael.  Tuesday was our area picnic, which included some volleyball, which the tool translated in to nearly 9000 steps.  From there, things leveled off to their sad normal levels on Wednesday and Thursday.  Friday benefited from Elvis Night at the Cell, as a different parking lot led to post-game ramps instead of the escalator.  Saturday was another wasted day, with only another Sox game, this time with escalators, on the docket.

GFY2 – Week 2

Well, things started off looking like another disappointing, ho-hum week until Thursday, when a combination of a meeting in North plaza followed by a post-work pub crawl and the midnight showing of Batman led to 2 above average days, including the first day over 10,000 steps since April 9th.  Saturday included a trip to the Cell for Grinder Bash, a party for White Sox season ticket holders.
