Collecting The Hardware

While Purdue begins their defense of the Big Ten Tournament title this afternoon, they’ve already started to collect some post-season hardware.  On Wednesday, the Sporting News announced that Zach Edey was their National Player of the Year for the second straight season, making him just the eighth repeat winner since the award began in 1943.  Edey swept the six National Player of the Year awards last year and is the favorite to do so again this year, a feat last accomplished by Bill Walton in 1972 and 1973.

Picking Up Some Hardware

KrisBryant

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant picked up the Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year award last Monday.  He becomes just the sixth Cub player to win the award, and the first since Geovany Soto in 2008.  Bryant should bring home another trophy later this month when the BBWAA announces their Rookie of the Year award.  Hopefully, it’s just the start of a long and prosperous career that sees him get many awards, and maybe, someday, even a ring.

abreuIt’s been a busy week for White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, first picking up the Sporting News AL Rookie of the Year award on Monday and then being named the first baseman for the AL All Star team announced yesterday, also from Sporting News.  Abreu is the first White Sox player to win the Rookie of the Year award since Gordon Beckham in 2009 and the first AL All Star selected by Sporting News voters since Alexei Ramirez in 2010.

Abreu should bring home another award next month when the BBWAA announces their Rookie of the Year award.  Hopefully, it’s just the start of a long and prosperous career that sees him get many awards, and maybe even a ring.

After 6 appearances, they did do something: demoting him to Triple A, where he went 3-11 with a 4.82 ERA in 19 starts.  The following season, he competed for the 5th starters role, and even LaRussa conceded that he was much improved.  Unfortunately for Mura, he was released towards the end of spring training.

Mura’s numbers in a White Sox uniform were:
