It’s been a rough tournament, though my champion is still alive.

Keep On Dancing
As we enter the Sweet 16, brackets across the nation are busted thanks to upsets galore, including the first ever 16 seed knocking off a 1 seed. Thankfully, my Boilermakers are still alive, and thanks to my trip to Vegas this week, I have some money riding on them to win the whole thing. Crazier things have already happened in this year’s tournament.
I’m in trouble here, as only 1 team I picked heading in to the Sweet 16 is still alive. Virginia, the overall #1 seed, lost in the first round to the upstarts from UMBC. Exciting times all around.
I’ve got 2 out of the remaining 4 teams still alive, and my final four slot here is still in play. Hopefully I lose that, though, on my way to paying off the Vegas bet.
Dancing Days Are Here Again
It’s that time of year again, as the nation’s attention turns to the college hoops scene for the next few weeks. I’m down to just two pools this year; one at my mom’s work, and one run by a friend, as the work pool died due to lack of interest. If it weren’t for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas, I’d likely be heading to Detroit this weekend to cheer on the Boilermakers.
A couple of upsets make up my first bracket, with the #2 seed, the Bearcats of Cincinnati, being my pick to advance to the Final Four.
After some late season stumbles, Purdue winds up as the #2 seed. Villanova is the early favorite to win the whole thing, and, using my head instead of my heart, I’m picking them to come out of the East.
16 Is Sweet
As we head in to the Sweet Sixteen, I have no earthly idea where I’m at in my two pools, thanks to Purdue advancing with two victories up in Milwaukee at the Bradley Center. 3 out of my 4 Final Four picks are still alive, so I may still have a bit of a chance to win something along the way.
A few upsets here have both the #1 and #2 seeds on the outside looking in. While I lost one of my Final Four picks when Villanova lost, it was worth it to get a Duke loss as well.
Purdue stays alive, but faces a large challenge tonight, facing #1 seed Kansas in Kansas City. Continue reading →

I’m down to just two pools this yearone at my mom’s work, and one run by a friend, as the work pool died due to lack of interest. I will be in Milwaukee tonight to watch the Purdue Boilermakers make their third straight tournament appearance, hopefully advancing past this first weekend.
Last year’s champion, Villanova, gets the overall #1 seed and are my pick to advance to the Final Four.
Purdue ends up as the 4 seed in the Midwest, and I have them going to the Elite Eight, before falling to Oregon. I have tickets to the first two games, so I hope they can at least win those 2.
2016 College Football Kickoff
My alma mater, the Purdue Boilermakers, kick off their 2016 gridiron campaign tomorrow, looking for their first winning season since 2011. Time to take a look at the results of the 21 college football games I have attended since the 1993 season, covering 4 different stadiums in a whopping 2 states.

#121 – Chris Getz
Name: Chris Getz
Rank: 121
Position: 2B
Years With White Sox: 2008-2009
Chris Getz was selected by the White Sox in the 6th round of the 2002 draft, but instead elected to attend Wake Forest. 3 years later, following a transfer to Michigan, Getz was again drafted by the White Sox, this time in the 4th round. By 2008, Getz appeared in the Futures Game before making his major league debut on August 12 against the Royals. He appeared in 10 games, but managed only 7 at bats for the year as the White Sox won the AL Central.
With Alexei Ramirez moving to shortstop in 2009, second base was left open for Getz and manager Ozzie Guillen awarded him the every day job coming out of spring training. Getz led the league with a 92.6 stolen base percentage and tied for first among AL rookies with 28 multi-hit games.
Following the season, Getz, along with Josh Fields, was traded to the Royals for Mark Teahen.
Getz’s numbers in a White Sox uniform, both for games I attended and overall, were:

The Sweet Sixteen
Despite a weekend of upsets, things are looking pretty bright for my brackets, at least in the work pool, where I’m currently in second place. I’m tied for 44th in the big pool I’m in, which isn’t too bad. And, my entire final four is still alive. Let’s take a look at how things stand:
Things look pretty good here in the South region, where my final four pick is still alive.
Things were even better here in the East regional, where I was perfect through the first round and only lost Villanova going into this weekend. Unfortunately, I did have them winning another game. Continue reading →
It’s Tournament Time
It’s that time of the year again, as the nation’s attention turns to the college hoops scene for the next couple of weeks. I’m in three different pools again this year, one at work, one at my mom’s work, and one run by a friend. Once again, Purdue is sitting out the tournament, but I can take some solace that IU is as well.
Not much in the way of upsets here in the South region, as I have overall #1 seed Florida making it to the Final Four.
I see Michigan State making it out of the East region. Continue reading →
