iTunes Top 200: #167 Part The Third

itunes_image3 years ago, we first counted down the then Top 100 songs in my iTunes library. Since that time, I’ve successfully managed to migrate my music collection to a new PC with the stats intact. So, I figured it was time to take another look, expanding out the field to the top 200 songs, based on number of plays as of January 1, 2016.

After a brief hiatus, we continue today with the third grouping of 10 songs tied for 167th place with 17 plays apiece since late 2007, 2 more than what would have qualified for the top 100 3 years ago.

Post Mortem – Garfunkel And Oates

g&oBack in March, IFC announced that they would not be moving forward with a second season of Garfunkel and Oates, based on the musical comedy duo of the same name consisting of Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci.  This is a great loss, as I am a big fan of them as well as the show.

Lindhome has already moved on, co-creating and co-starring in Another Period for Comedy Central, which debuted late last month. Meanwhile, the duo continue to record music and will hopefully have a new album available soon.

Top 200 Albums – #29 – 37

itunes_imageMy latest desktop computer arrived in late 2007, at which point I transitioned all of my music off of my laptop. 2 iPods, 3 iPhones, and an iPad later, that computer is still my main repository of music, with iTunes updating its stats every time I listen to something.

Having already gone through cassette tapes and CDs, and digital music, it’s time to roll everything up with the Top 200 albums whose songs I’ve listened to as of September 2014, according to iTunes. Today, we crack the top 30 with the 9 albums ranked from 37th to 29th with between 76 and 86 listens.

#29: Motley Crue – Motley Crue Greatest Hits

9 of the glam metal bands biggest hits make up the total for this greatest hits package.

#29: Garbage – Chicago ’05

This bootleg, from the bands 2005 show at the Metro, uses all 17 songs from its setlist to make up this total.

#29: P.O.D. – Satellite

Concert Flashback: Garfunkel & Oates

13gando

As I detailed somewhat last October, Garfunkel and Oates were coming to town.  I had made plans to attend with two friends from work, but they dragged their feet on getting back to me and all of the seated tickets were sold out.  When they found out we would have to *gasp* stand for the show, they bailed, leaving me with 2 extra tickets.  Seeing as it was the start of my birthday weekend, I decided to head down to the Abbey Pub without them and enjoy myslef as much as I could.  And enjoy myself I did.

20131201-205308.jpg The show started with a comic whose name escapes me at this point.  Once he finished his set, the girls came out and did their thing, mixing banter between themselves with their comedic songs.  In addition to the “hits” from their existing albums, they performed some of their newer songs, including Bernadette’s Song, which they wrote and had debuted on The Big Bang Theory the night before, and God’s Loophole, an exciting ditty about anal sex.

Once the show finished, both Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci came out to sign autographs and take pictures.  I got their autograph on one of my three tickets for the night and got my picture taken with both of them, which has been my Facebook profile picture ever since.  If they were to ever come back to town, I would definately go see them again.  Meanwhile, I’ll look forward to their IFC show, which should be coming out sometime this year.

The $90 Comedy Show

GandO

The musical comedians (or comedic musicians) known as Garfunkel and Oates came to town tonight and I had made plans to attend with a few friends.  However, the day after I bought the tickets, these so-called friends changed their mind, deciding against going because, well, there really wasn’t any reason.  At least not one that made sense.  So, for the past week or so, I’ve been alternately trying to find someone else to use the extra tickets and trying to control my anger.

Tonight, armed with three tickets, I headed down to Abbey Pub solo to see the show, figuring that I had spent $90 either way, so I might as well enjoy myself.  And enjoy myself I did.  Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome put on a great show, treating the crowd to some of their songs, some witty banter, and an unplanned cover version of the song they wrote for last night’s episode of The Big Bang Theory.  After the show, the duo came out and signed autographs and took pictures with the appreciative crowd.  For one night, at least, I have happy feelings about the whole episode.
