You Ought To Be In (26) Pictures

Movie_Reel_22Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime.  The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since.  So, given those guidelines, it is time to look at all of the actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of July 1st.

Today, we look at the 1 actor that has starred in 26 movies that I have seen, down 1 from 3 years ago.

Raymond Burr

Raymond Burr is a bit of an anomaly as every single one of his appearances have been TV movies where he has played the same character.  In 1985, NBC brought back Perry Mason, Raymond Burr’s starring vehicle from the 50s and 60s, for a TV movie.   The ratings were high enough to justify a recurring series of films, 26 in fact, over the next several years, ending in 1994 following Burr’s death the previous year.

Today, we continue with the actor that has starred in 25 movies that I have seen, a number not seen 3 years ago.

Tom Hanks

In 1984, Tom Hanks splashed on to the movie scene in the aptly titled Splash.  My biggest Tom Hanks year was 1988, when I saw at least 3 of his films, and there were 5 other years where I saw 2 of his films.  He is riding a 3 year streak, covering 5 films, that looks to continue in 2018, as I’ve already seen him twice this year in both Larry Crowne and Inferno.

Today, we continue with the 4 actors that have starred in 22 movies that I have seen, a total not seen 3 years ago.

Ben Affleck

A 3 spot rise for Affleck, thanks in part to his casting as Batman in the DC cinematic universe.  His most recent film that I’ve seen is The Accountant, which I watched earlier this year.

Sandra Bullock

A 4 spot rise for Bullock, who takes the reign as the highest placing actress.  Two films in both 2014 and 2016 have put her in the lead, with Our Brand Is Crisis and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close being the last things I have seen her in.

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. rises 2 spots, thanks to his work in the Marvel cinematic universe.  2016’s Captain America: Civil War would have been the last thing I have seen him in, at least as of July 1.

Harrison Ford

The return of Star Wars has pushed Ford up 1 spot, with his final appearance as Han Solo coming in 2015’s The Force Awakens.

Tom Cruise

A 3 picture jump for Tom Cruise puts him near the elite of my personal list of movie stars.  The first and most recent installments of the Mission: Impossible franchise were the last films of his I’ve seen back in 2015

John Cusack

A little known film I saw in 2015 called The Factory gives Cusack his only new entry.

Eddie Murphy

No change for Murphy, as it continues to be more than a decade since I’ve seen one of his starring perfromances, as I suffered through both Showtime and Adventures Of Pluto Nash in 2004.

Meg Ryan

A one-time favorite, Meg Ryan has been missing from my screen since 2009’s Serious Moonlight, which I saw in 2010.

Denzel Washington

A one picture jump for Denzel Washington, thanks to his starring role in Flight, which I saw in 2014.

Robert DeNiro

Robert DeNiro moves up 2 spots thanks to dual action in 2016, appearing in Joy and The Intern, both of which were released in 2015.

Samuel L. Jackson moves up one spot thanks to 2015’s The Kingsman, which I saw in 2016, breaking a 6 year drought.
