As we approach Independence Day, we celebrate the start of the second half of the year with Angelina and Danny sharing a hug last year after Danny’s confirmation.

Fitbit III: Week 19
A slow start turned into a tremendous week, as I broke 60,000 steps for the first time since the end of March/beginning of April. Things started poorly with a 3500 step day on Sunday, ending my streak of days above goal at 24. Monday bounced back, as a concerted effort to make up for Sunday got me over 9200 steps. Tuesday saw me working a bit late, which led to a long commute and coming in at just over my 6500 step goal. Wednesday I was able to combine some work activity with an after-work walk to surpass 11,000 steps. Thursday was even better, thanks to a post-work trip to Wrigley Field that ended up with over 11,300 steps. Friday needed some last minute pacing before falling asleep to get over goal for the day. Saturday was the big day of the week, thanks to a morning walk on a new route and Angelina’s graduation party. When all was said and done, I ended up with over 16,200 steps, my highest total since Universal last June.

Fitbit III: Week 15
A slight bounce back, as I managed to get back over my weekly goal, though I still fell below 50,000 steps for the second consecutive week. Things got off to a decent start on Sunday, as I just managed to sneak past 6500 steps as midnight struck thanks to an extra inning tilt at Wrigley Field between the Cubs and the Yankees. Monday was another sneaker, due to me working from home, but an afternoon walk combined with the early morning steps coming home from the game helped push me over. Tuesday I was back in the office, and numerous smoke breaks and a trip to North with Val put me well over the top. Wednesday was another day at home, but rain kept me in the house, leading to a down day, despite a trip to out at night for Angelina’s scholarship night. Thursday was back to work again, where I was able to rebound thanks to a post-work trip to the mall to spend a copious amount of money on a new car. Friday again managed to just squeak by my daily step goal, thanks to time spent on the bed watching TV after work. Saturday combined some chores around the house with a Sox game to give me my highest total of the week.

Spring Is In The Air
Fitbit III: Week 4
A tremendous week, as continued unseasonably warm weather, including new record highs for Chicago in the month of February, led to my highest weekly total since last June. Things got off to a good start on Sunday, where grocery shopping and a walk around the neighborhood combined to put me over 10,000 steps for just the fourth time in the month of February. Monday surpassed 8700 steps, thanks to an afternoon meeting in Willow that the weather allowed me to walk over for. Despite some morning rain, Tuesday again surpassed the 10,000 step plateau, thanks to an after work neighborhood walk. Wednesday finished above 8000 steps, and was the last day of good weather. Thursday benefited from an after-work dinner outing to come close to 7000 steps. Friday was spent in Rockford, watching Angelina compete at Nationals. Multiple trips around the BMO Harris Bank Center enabled me to just pass my daily step goal. Saturday I managed to surpass 6500 steps for the 28th straight day, despite not leaving the house at all.
Total steps: 58,336
Daily average: 8333.7
March Forth
FB2: Week 50
What looked like it would turn out to be a great week early on turned out to be so-so. Things got off to a decent enough start on Sunday thanks to an afternoon trip up north to meet Hayley for dinner and a movie (not necessarily in that order). Monday benefited from multiple meetings in North plaza, leading to my highest step day in over a month. Tuesday and Wednesday were decent enough days, both easily clearing the 6000 step plateau. Thursday turned in to a WFH day due to icy conditions, meaning I only managed to get 4700 steps, well below my goal. Friday was a nice bounce back, before Saturday again fell well short despite a trip out for dinner after seeing Angelina skate.

Ringing In The New Year
Book 26 (of 52) – Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince
After a 3 month break (thanks mostly to Angelina not giving me the next book), I returned to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth and penultimate entry in the series. In this installment, Harry finds an old potions book with shortcuts and spells added by the so-called Half Blood Prince. Meanwhile, Dumbledore tries to track down bits of Voldemort’s soul before falling to the Death Eaters.
The series takes a darker turn here, as Harry and his classmates come closer to adulthood and learn they will need to face the coming battles without their headmaster. There is one more book in the series, which I hope to finish by the end of the year. Assuming, of course, that Angelina cooperates.
She’s Only 17
Today marks Angelina’s 17th birthday, and her last here at home before going off to college. To celebrate, we have a photo of her in a mock phone booth in downstate Metropolis, where we stopped last year on the way home from our Elvis trip.
