You Ought To Be In (10) Pictures

Movie_Reel_22Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime.  The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since.  So, given those guidelines, it is time to look at all of the actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of May 30th.

Today, we start with the 14 actors that have starred in 10 movies that I have seen.

Amy Adams

I was first introduced to Amy Adams back in 2001 via the direct-to-video sequel to Cruel Intentions.  Things were quiet until 2008, when I saw her in Enchanted, which started a four year run with at least one film per year.  2010 was big Amy Adams year for me, where she starred in 4 different movies that I saw that year.  The last movie I saw featuring her was last year’s Man of Steel.

Jessica Alba

My first movie exposure to Jessica Alba was the 2000 indie thriller Paranoid.  2004 kicked off a 4 year run of at least one film per year.  2009 was my high water mark in Jessica Alba films, when I saw 3 of them.  Her run as Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four franchise accounted for 2 of the 10 films.  2010’s Valentine’s Day, which I saw in 2011, was the last film I saw starring Alba.

Dan Aykroyd

My first Dan Aykroyd film was likely 1984’s Ghostbusters.  My best Aykroyd years were 1988 and 1996, when I saw 2 of his films in each year.  2002 was the last year I saw an Aykroyd-starring vehicle, 200’s Stardom.

Chevy Chase

Another SNL vet on the list, Chase first entered my movie-watching universe in 1986 when I saw Three Amigos! in the theater.  The Vacation franchise is responsible for 40% of Chase’s total output here.  The last Chevy Chase film I saw was in 2009, when I saw 1985’s Fletch for the first time.

Jennifer Connelly

As a 16 year old in the spring of 1991, I fell in love with Jennifer Connelly thanks to the ads for Career Opportunities, which is likely the first place I saw her.  2000 was my most prolific Jennifer Connelly year, when I saw a whopping 2 movies starring her.  2009 was the last time I saw one of her starring performances, in 2008’s The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Billy Crystal

My first theatrical exposure to Billy Crystal was probably 1987’s Throw Mama From The Train. My biggest Crystal year was 1995, when I saw 3 of his starring roles.  It has been 10 years since I’ve seen one of his films, the last being 2002’s Analyze That.

Zooey Deschanel

Former indie darling Zooey Deschanel first entered my consciousness in 2005, when I saw her in All The Real Girls. 2008 kicked off a 2 year run where I saw 7 of the 10 films that placed her on this list.  I last saw one of her films in 2011, when I watched the 2007 release The Good Life.

Will Ferrell

The fourth SNL alum on this week’s list, Will Ferrell first streaked on to the list of film actors I’ve seen in 2003 with Old School.  Since then, his appearances have been pretty consistent, with 2 3-year streaks over the past 11 years.  The most recent film of his I’ve seen was 2012’s The Campaign, which I saw earlier this year.

Michael J. Fox

1983’s TV movie High School USA was probably my first movie experience with Michael J. Fox.  The Back to the Future franchise made up 30% of Fox’s overall total.  My last Michael J. Fox film was way back in 1996, when he starred in The Frighteners.

Melissa Joan Hart

Made-for-TV movies have been very good for Melissa Joan Hart, and my first film experience with her was 1996’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which served as a psuedo-pilot for the television series.  This kicked off a good 5-year run of at least one film per year.  After a long layoff from films I have seen, she came back with movies in 2008 and 2011, which was the last time I’ve seen her in a film.

Nicole Kidman

I first saw Nicole Kidman in 1993’s My Life.  Since then, she has appeared in bursts, with lengthy layoffs in between.  The last time I saw one of her films was in 2008, when I saw 2007’s The Invasion.

Dennis Quaid

My first experience with Dennis Quaid was probably 1987’s Innerspace.  The 10 films of his I’ve seen have been quite evenly spaced over the 27 years since.  His last starring appearance on a screen in front of me was in 2009, when I saw 2008’s Vantage Point.

Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller first entered my movie-watching consciousness in 1997, thanks to the previous year’s Flirting With Disaster.  He put together a 4-year streak from 2001-2004.  I last saw him in 2011, when I watched Night At the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian despite having never seen the first one.

Charlize Theron

2000 brought Charlize Theron’s starring roles into my life in a big way, when she debuted with 3 films in one year.  She has been pretty consistent since, though she hasn’t been able to duplicate the multiple film blast she had that first year.  My last theatrical experience with her was last year, when I watched 2011’s Young Adult.
