Monday, the BBWAA released their ballot for the Hall of Fame class of 2025. The results of the vote are due to be revealed on January 21st, with induction taking place July 27th. Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, and Joe Mauer were elected in last year’s voting and Gary Sheffield reached the ten-year maximum, leaving fourteen holdovers along with another fourteen newcomers.
Let’s take a look at the returning candidates today before moving on to the newcomers next time.
Bobby Abreu
Years on ballot: 5
2024 Percentage: 14.8
A slight downward trend for Abreu, who has a long way to go and not a lot of time to do it.
Carlos Beltran
Years on ballot: 2
2024 Percentage: 57.1
A nice bump in his second go-around for Beltran means the Astros cheating scandal might just delay his entry to Cooperstown rather than derailing it outright.
Mark Buehrle
Years on ballot: 4
2024 Percentage: 8.3
Buehrle keeps bouncing up and down but lives to fight another day in his uphill climb to make it to Cooperstown.
Torii Hunter
Years on ballot: 4
2024 Percentage: 7.3
Despite a small increase from the previous year, things do not look good for the long-term prospects of the former Twin and Angel.
Andruw Jones
Years on ballot: 7
2024 Percentage: 61.6
With just three elections left, Jones keeps trending in the right direction but doesn’t have all that much time left.
Andy Pettitte
Years on ballot: 6
2024 Percentage: 13.5
With a decrease last year, the stain of PEDs looks to be keeping Andy Pettitte on the outside looking in.
Manny Ramirez
Years on ballot: 8
2024 Percentage: 32.5
With a small drop in voting percentage, the numerous PED suspensions at the end of Ramirez’s career are certainly holding him back and there isn’t much time left for him to recover.
Alex Rodriguez
Years on ballot: 3
2024 Percentage: 34.8
Barring some big change in the voting bloc of the BBWAA, Redriguez’s numerous PED suspensions will keep him out.
Francisco Rodriguez
Years on ballot: 2
2024 Percentage: 7.8
The single season saves leader, Rodriguez saw a slight drop in his second go-around, leaving him a long way to go for enshrinement.
Jimmy Rollins
Years on ballot: 3
2024 Percentage: 14.8
Rollins had a great career, but not great enough to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
Chase Utley
Years on ballot: 1
2024 Percentage: 28.8
A strong debut from the six-time All Star.
Omar Vizquel
Years on ballot: 7
2024 Percentage: 17.7
Another drop for Vizquel, who has seen allegations of abuse by an ex-wife and an autistic boy destroy any chance he may have had of making the Hall.
Billy Wagner
Years on ballot: 9
2024 Percentage: 73.8
The former Astro and Phillie closer fell just short last year but has just one more shot to get across the finish line.
David Wright
Years on ballot: 1
2024 Percentage: 6.2
The star Met, who saw his career end prematurely due to injuries, had the lowest surviving vote total last year.
