Years With White Sox: 1996-1998
Tony Castillo joined the White Sox from the Blue Jays via a waiver trade in August of 1996, along with Domingo Cedeno, in exchange for Luis Andujar and Allen Halley. Castillo shined for the White Sox, putting up a 1.59 ERA over 15 appearances and earned himself a 2 year contract extension.
That contract did not exactly work out for the South Siders, as Castillo, pitching in a career high 64 games in 1997, saw his ERA jump to nearly 5.00. Things got worse in 1998, as Castillo’s ERA ballooned up to 8.00 and, on June 21, the White Sox threw in the towel and released the lefty reliever, ending his major league career.
Castillo’s numbers in a White Sox uniform, both for games I attended and overall, were:
| Wins | Losses | ERA | Saves | IP | Hits | Runs | ER | Walks | Strike Outs | HR | HBP | Appearances |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 2 | 13.50 | 0 | 3.333 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 4 |
| 8 | 7 | 4.98 | 5 | 112 | 135 | 80 | 62 | 38 | 65 | 14 | 4 | 104 |
