What was supposed to be a small job to change the fill valve on the toilet has turned into disaster, as the old valve is broken off and the remaining piece is stubbornly refusing to come out.  Meanwhile, at some point during the battle, the rod connecting the flusher to the flap that actually does the flushing seems to have broken off, which means another trip to Lowe’s at some point.
