I recently received an letter asking if I had any thoughts on the proper way to recognize employees for the good work that they do, and boy, do I!  I came up with this idea a few years back, but like most of my steaming piles of wisdom, it should still be good today.

The Learning Turkey Guide to the Employee of the Month!

Every month, you select one employee who is deserving of recognition.  You would then lead this person around your workplace in a parade-like manner, encouraging your other employees to applaud for the Employee of the Month.  This will both gratify the current Employee of the Month as well as encourage other employees to perform at a higher level so they can have their own parade.  Also, you should work with building management to get a special parking spot assigned for the Employee of the Month.  Even though they will say no, you should do it anyway.
