Fitbit 12 – Week 34

Another great week as I once again surpassed my daily goal twice and finished above 40,000 steps for the thirteenth straight week.  Things got off to a nice start on Sunday thanks to a morning walk and a trip to Rate Field to see the White Sox pick up a victory. pushing me up to 9100 steps.  The Labor Day holiday on Monday finished with 6300 steps.  A quiet Tuesday again finished with 6300 steps, a mere 8 less than Monday’s total.  Wednesday was the low day of the week, ending with 4800 steps.  Thursday saw a slight improvement, going up to 4900 steps.  Things picked back up on Friday, ending 14 steps shy of 6000.  A return to Wrigley Field on Saturday wrapped up the week with 7600 steps.

Total steps: 45,191

You Ought To Be In (15) Pictures

Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime.  The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since.  Given those guidelines, it is time once again to look at the now 111 actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of August 1.

We continue today with the eleven actors that have starred in exactly fifteen movies that I have seen, a decrease of one from three years ago.

Jason Bateman

Jason Bateman first appeared on my radar with 1987’s Teen Wolf Too.  After another film in 1992, he took the rest of the century off and didn’t reappear on my screen until 2010, when he started a streak of five films in three years, followed by another streak of seven films in five years ending in 2018.  He returned to my screen again in 2024, thanks to Carry On.

Will Ferrell

The SNL alum first streaked on to the list of film actors I’ve seen in 2003 with Old School.  Since then, his appearances have been pretty consistent, with 2012-2013 being the longest streak of him not appearing on my screen.  The most recent film of his I’ve seen was 2013’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which I finally saw in 2022.

Jennifer Lawrence

The delightful Jennifer Lawrence first appeared on my screen in 2011, thanks to 2010’s Winter’s Bone.  Since then, I have seen her in at least one movie every year through 2023, tripling up in 2013, for an active streak of thirteen straight years that ended with 2023’s No Hard Feelings.

Steve Martin

The last starring role of his that I saw remains 2005’s Shopgirl, which I saw in 2009.

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds first appeared on my movie radar in 2006, when I saw him in both The Amityville Horror and Just Friends, which started a streak of five films in four years.  He had double shots in 2006, 2011, 2017, and 2019.  He returned as Deadpool in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which was the last I saw of him.

Winona Ryder

I first became aware of Winona Ryder in the hit film Beetlejuice, but her first starring role that I saw came in 1990, when I saw the dark comedy Heathers.  My biggest Ryder year was 2000, when I saw two of her films.  After a thirteen-year absence, she returned to my screen in 2024, thanks to the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Julia Stiles

1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You was my first exposure to Julia Stiles. She had been a steady presence since, picking up ten films between 1999 and 2008.  She managed to score multiple films in both 2001 and 2006. Things have been spotty since, with only five films over the past fifteen years, with the latest being 2022’s Orphan: First Kill, which I saw in 2023.

Charlize Theron

2000 brought Charlize Theron’s starring roles into my life in a big way, when she debuted with three films in one year.  She has been pretty consistent since, with mini-streaks in 2004-2005, 2007-2008, 2012-2013, and 2015-2016.  Her last appearances were a double shot in 2020, with 2019’s Long Shot followed by 2003’s Monster.

Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn splashed on to the scene in 1996’s Swingers, which I saw in 1998.  Since then, he has been fairly consistent, with me seeing a film of his either every year or every other year through the early 2010s.  Things slowed down after 2011, when I saw both Psycho and The Dilemma.  After a five-year absence, he returned to my screen in 2021, when I saw the previous year’s breakout horror hit Freaky.

Mark Wahlberg

The former leader of the Funky Bunch first moved over to movies with 1996’s Fear.  There have been four years since where I have seen multiple Wahlberg flicks, most recently in 2018.  The last film of his that I saw was the second of those 2018 flicks, 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight.

Robin Williams

Seeing as he is no longer walking the Earth, 2008 is still both my biggest Williams year and my last time seeing his films, thanks to Jack, License To Wed, and The Night Listener.

Getting Things Moving Again

Following a season-high four game losing streak, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to thirteen yesterday thanks to their 6-5 victory over the Cardinals following the Twins defeating the Guardians 4-3 in Minneapolis earlier in the day.  Both series conclude this afternoon before the White Sox head to Cleveland for three starting tomorrow.

The 2026 White Sox sit with 76 wins, the most in MLB history for a team coming off of at least three straight 100-loss seasons.  They are looking to become the first team to ever make the post-season after two straight 100-loss seasons.

Book 49 (of 52) – Nothing Tastes As Good

Nothing Tastes as Good – Luke Dumas

Struggling with his weight all of his life, Emmett Truesdale joins a clinical trial for a new drug called Obexity which the company claims will help him lose weight with no lifestyle changes.  While the weight quickly starts to fall off, Emmett finds that he is suffering from blackouts, which mysteriously coincide with the suspicious disappearances/deaths of people who have slighted him in the past.  He eventually learns that the drug is turning him into a cannibal but doesn’t want to give up the weight loss.  When he learns who is behind the new drug, however, he goes over the edge.

Nothing Tasts as Good is my first experience with the work of Luke Dumas.  This story hits a little close to home, as I have been on a weight loss journey powered by a wonder drug for the last year.  Thankfully, the horror elements were not part of my side effects, so my experience has been much better than Emmett’s.  Dumas tells an interesting tale here and I look forward to reading more from him in the future.

Fifteen and Holding

Despite dropping their second straight to the Pirates, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to fifteen yesterday thanks to the Orioles defeating the Guardians 9-5 in Baltimore.  The White Sox conclude their three-game series at home against the Pirates tonight, while the Guardians have the day off.

The 2026 White Sox sit with 75 wins, the most in MLB history for a team coming off of at least three straight 100-loss seasons.  They are looking to become the first team to ever make the post-season after two straight 100-loss seasons.

TKR TRO

Last week, former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn filed a lawsuit against the NCAA looking for a sixth season of NCAA eligibility and asking a judge to prevent the NCAA from hindering him from enrolling, practicing or competing for an NCAA program.  Yesterday, a judge granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, allowing Kaufman-Renn to join a college team while awaiting another hearing for a preliminary injunction.

One place he will not end up is back in Mackey Arena.  In an Instagram post yesterday, Kaufman-Renn said his “chapter in black and gold has come to an end” and that he’s “officially eligible for the 2026-27 college basketball season and excited for what comes next.”

Sweet 16

Despite an off day, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to 16 yesterday thanks to the Orioles defeating the Guardians 6-4 in Baltimore.  The White Sox start a three-game series at home tonight against the Pirates, while the Guardians continue their battle with the Orioles.

The 2026 White Sox sit with 75 wins, the most in MLB history for a team coming off of at least three straight 100-loss seasons.  They are looking to become the first team to ever make the post-season after two straight 100-loss seasons.

Fitbit 12 – Week 33

The good times keep rolling as I surpassed my daily goal twice and finished above 40,000 steps for the twelfth straight week.  Things got off to a nice start on Sunday thanks to a morning walk and a trip to Wrigley Field to pick up a Harry Caray bobblehead, leaving me 16 steps shy of 8800.  Thanks to an early morning eye doctor appointment on Monday, I fell back a bit, ending up 23 steps away from 5600.  A quiet Tuesday left me a mere 6 steps short of 6500.  Colonoscopy prep, and the requisite trips to the facilities, on Wednesday pushed me back over my daily goal, ending with 7900 steps.  Said colonoscopy limited me to 4400 steps on Thursday.  Friday bounced back in a big way, finishing with 7000 steps on the nose.  A return to Rate Field for my first game of September on Saturday wrapped up the week with 7200 steps.

Total steps: 47,454

It’s Only 17

Thanks to a 10-1 victory over the Twins last night, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to 17.  While the White Sox are idle today, the Guardians battle the Orioles this afternoon.

The 2026 White Sox sit with 75 wins, the most in MLB history for a team coming off of at least three straight 100-loss seasons.  They are looking to become the first team to ever make the post-season after two straight 100-loss seasons.

You Ought To Be In (14) Pictures

Many years ago, using the weekly TV guide that came with the Sunday Chicago Tribune, I started keeping track of all of the movies I had seen over the course of my lifetime.  The guide would list the two main stars for each movie, and that is a tradition that I’ve carried on in my database ever since.  Given those guidelines, it is time once again to look at the now 111 actors that have starred in at least 10 films that I have seen, as of August 1.

We continue today with the six actors that have starred in exactly fourteen movies that I have seen, a decrease of three from three years ago.

Morgan Freeman

The first film I saw starring Morgan Freeman was the Kevin Costner vehicle Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  Starting in 2000, he put together a six-year streak that covered eight films.  My biggest Freeman years were 2000, 2005, and 2008, when I saw him in two films each.  After a five-year layoff, he returned in 2020, starring in 2019’s Angel Has Fallen.

Woody Harrelson

In 1992, I headed to the theaters to see White Men Can’t Jump, where I first encountered Woody Harrelson in film.  That was followed by six more films between 1994 and 2000, after which there was a long lull.  Harrelson came back in to my world in 2008, then added two more in 2010.  His most recent appearance came in 2024, when I saw 2017’s War For the Planet of the Apes.

Anna Kendrick

Kendrick, who packed nine films into just three years, started in 2016, when Pitch Perfect 2 was the first of four films I saw starring her.  She followed that up with another four in 2017, an additional two in 2018, and single outings in 2019 and 2021 and again in 2024 and 2025, when I watched her in Another Simple Favor.

Adam Sandler

2011’s Just Go With It, which I saw in 2013, is still my most current exposure to Sandler’s work.

Christian Slater

The last film of Slater’s that I saw was Alone In The Dark, all the way back in 2006.

John Travolta

The last starring role of Travolta’s that I saw was the 2009 remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123, which I saw in 2010.
