Fitbit 12 – Week 19

Nearly two years ago, Google did away with the web interface for Fitbit, leaving the mobile app as the only way to access one’s data.  Last week, they revamped the app once again, doing away with the Fitbit name and rebranding it as Google Health, losing even more functionality along the way.  The new graphical representation of the weekly step totals looks a little ridiculous and, with the battery on my current device slowly failing, it may once again be time to revisit my step-counting solution going forward.

Another great week as I pushed my 30,000-step week streak to sixteen despite a lingering cold.  The week got off to a decent start on Sunday, as a visit to my sister’s house to celebrate Danny’s upcoming move left me with 4500 steps.  A Memorial Day trip to the ballpark on Monday pushed me up to 4900 steps.  A small decrease on Tuesday, ended just 17 steps away from 4900.  Wednesday was the best day of the week, thanks to a walk to Walgreens to pick up some cough medicine which left me 34 steps shy of 5900.  A busy day of work on Thursday dropped me back to 4400 steps.  Friday needed only 7 additional steps to reach 5000.  The week wrapped up on a high note on Saturday thanks to another visit to Rate Field, falling just 17 steps short of my daily goal of 7500.

Fitbit 12 – Week 18

Yet another great week as I pushed my 30,000-step week streak to fifteen and my streak of 4000+ step days reached 90, a full three months.  The week got off to a good start on Sunday thanks to a trip to Rate Field for the final installment of the first Crosstown series of the year, finishing 35 steps shy of 5600.  Monday saw a small decrease, dropping down to 4500 steps.  A lunchtime walk while I changed kept things rolling on Tuesday, ending 27 steps away from 6900.  Wednesday was the best day of the week, thanks to a season holder event at Wrigley Field in the afternoon followed by the Cubs game that night, wrapping up with 8400 steps.  Thursday used a walk to Walgreens to pick up a prescription to finish with 6100 steps.  A slow-ish Friday got the holiday weekend off to a decent start with 4400 steps.  The week wrapped up on a high note on Saturday with 6600 steps.

Fitbit 12 – Week 14

A great week as I scored my highest total in nearly two years, since my trip to Amsterdam, and cranked my 30,000-step week streak to eleven while also running my streak of 4000+ step days to 54.  The week got off to a great start on Sunday as a neighborhood walk left me with 5400 steps.  Monday was slightly better, ending with 5600 steps.  Things kept going on Tuesday, slightly falling to 5300 steps, which, if you can believe it, turned out to be my low point for the week.  A longer post-work walk on Wednesday left me just 15 steps shy of 6900.  Thursday topped out at 5500 steps.  A long walk while charging my car at lunch led to 7300 steps on Friday.  An afternoon trip to the Rate Field on Saturday wound up the week well over goal, coming just 11 steps shy of 8000.

Fitbit 12 – Week 11

Another great week as I kept my 30,000-step week streak alive for the eighth straight week while also running my streak of 4000+ days to 36.  An impromptu trip to American Family Field in Milwaukee on Sunday got the week off to a good start, finishing with 6100 steps.  A return trip to Wrigley Field on Monday was the high point of the week, finishing well above my daily goal with 9200 steps.  Resuming normal activities put me back down to 4700 steps on Tuesday.  A mere 28 steps were all that stood between me and 5000 on Wednesday.  Rain, which postponed the home opener on the South Side on Thursday, limited me to 4700.  My re-scheduled first trip to Rate Field of the season on Friday ended with 6800 steps.  A nice Saturday ended the week with 4400 steps.

Giants All Time Leaders – Through 2025

To paraphrase from a famous movie, the one constant through all the years has been baseball.  With a little more than a month until regular season baseball, we continue our look at the all-time leaders in both offensive and defensive categories for all 30 teams. Today, we take a deeper dive into the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants began life in 1883 in New York, before moving west to San Francisco in 1957. I’ve seen 177 players don the Giants uniforms in the 26 of their games I’ve attended live, first at their old home at Candlestick Park in 1999 and most recently this past June at Rate Field against the White Sox.

Padres All Time Leaders – Through 2025

To paraphrase from a famous movie, the one constant through all the years has been baseball.  As we head into 2026, we continue our look at the all-time leaders in both offensive and defensive categories for all 30 teams. Today, we take a deeper dive into the San Diego Padres.

The Padres began life in 1969, joining the National League along with the Montreal Expos.  I’ve seen 197 players wearing the Padres uniform in the 27 of their games that I’ve attended live at five different ballparks, first in 1985 at Wrigley Field and, most recently, this past September at Rate Field.  I had plans to take in the three-game series between them and the White Sox at PETCO Park in 2020, but that kind of fell apart for… reasons.

Red Sox All Time Leaders – Through 2025

To paraphrase from a famous movie, the one constant through all the years has been baseball.  With the winter meetings on the horizon, we continue our look at the all-time leaders in both offensive and defensive categories for all 30 teams. Today, we take a deeper dive into the Boston Red Sox.

One of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Boston in 1901 and took on the Red Sox nickname in 1908.  I’ve seen 198 players don the Red Sox uniforms in the 39 games I’ve seen them play, first in 1985 for the home opener at Comiskey Park, through the first two games of the 2005 ALDS at US Cellular Field, and most recently at Rate Field this past April.
