GFY2 – Week 49

Y2Week49Sunday finished out the theme park portion of my vacation to Disney World with another trip to Hollywood Studios, before calling it a day early and heading back to the hotel for some much needed pool time.  Monday consisted of a trip to Downtown Disney for some last minute shopping before heading to the airport for the trip back home.  Following all of the walking in the last week, Tuesday was a day of relaxation before heading back to work, with 2 trips to the movie theater giving my poor feet a break.  Wednesday gets us back to our normal workday activities, barely scraping the 5000 step mark.  Friday neared 8000 steps thanks to trips to Red Mango and then, after work, Rocky Vanders.

Saturday marked the half-way point of June, and I’m well above the midway point for the 200,000 step challenge.  Sadly, it might still come down to the wire, but I have a good feeling that I’m going to make it.

GFY2 – Week 47

Y2Week47The holiday week turned disappointing, with only 2 days over the 5000 step plateau.  Tuesday benefited from a post-work trip down to the Cell for a rain shortened outing.  Beyond that, nothing exciting pops out about the week.

Last Saturday, June 1 kicked off both National Great Outdoors Month and Allstate’s 1 Million Steps to Wellness.  As part of these, there are two challenges that started: 200,000 steps in the month of June and 1,000,000 steps between June and October.  200,000 steps averages out to 6,666.666666667 steps per day, which doesn’t sound too out of the question.  Hopefully, spending the next week at Disney World will give me a jump start, since I’m already 3000 steps behind after just one day.

30 For 30 – Save Pennies To Go Somewhere You Really Want To Go

The fine folks at away.com have come up with a list of 30 Things Every Traveler Must Do Before They’re 30.  Of those 30, I’ve managed to accomplish 12 of them, or roughly 40% of them, some of which was even before I turned 30.  Today we look at #23 on their list, save pennies to go somewhere you really want to go.  When I graduated from college back in May of 1997, I gave myself a little buffer before starting my job in August.  The plan was to head out west for San Diego Comic Con.  The only problem with that was that things like traveling and attending a con costs money.  And, since I had put off starting my career, I had none.

So, I had to push my plans back a year for my first foray to southern California.  As summer of 1998 rolled around, I had managed to put together enough sheckles to head out to San Diego and split a hotel room with 7 other people.  I turned into a full-fledged vacation, getting out there well before the con started and hitting up the zoo and other tourist attractions around the San Diego area.

GFY2 – Week 39

Y2Week39Another pretty decent week, with 4 days over the 5000 step mark, starting with Monday’s trip to the Cell for Opening Day.  The other days made good use of trips to North Plaza , with 2 of them on Wednesday.  In other news, the grand total passed the 3,000,000 step plateau.

pt2My goal for the year was to reach 4,000,000, which leaves me with 13 weeks to get about 1,000,000 steps.  My leg issues obviously held me back, as has this unending winter that refuses to go away.

It’s Dancing Time

It’s that time of year again, as the nation’s attention turns to the college hoops scene for the next couple of weeks. I’m in three different pools again this year, one at work, one at my mom’s work, and one run by a friend. No Purdue in the tournament this year, so my picks were made mostly with my head and not my heart, though it pained me to have IU going as far as I did.

GFY2 – Week 36

Y2Week36An actual decent week, with 4 days passing the 5000 step mark, including Saturday, and a fifth falling just short.  The three weekdays benefited from trips to North Plaza, either for meetings, smoothies from Red Mango, or a concerted effort on my part to get up and move around a bit.  Saturday’s surprising total was helped by traveling to multiple grocery stores in a futile effort to find packages of Oreo Mega Stuf cookies.
