Getting Things Moving Again

Following a season-high four game losing streak, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to thirteen yesterday thanks to their 6-5 victory over the Cardinals following the Twins defeating the Guardians 4-3 in Minneapolis earlier in the day.  Both series conclude this afternoon before the White Sox head to Cleveland for three starting tomorrow.

The 2026 White Sox sit with 76 wins, the most in MLB history for a team coming off of at least three straight 100-loss seasons.  They are looking to become the first team to ever make the post-season after two straight 100-loss seasons.

Despite dropping their second straight to the Pirates, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to fifteen yesterday thanks to the Orioles defeating the Guardians 9-5 in Baltimore.  The White Sox conclude their three-game series at home against the Pirates tonight, while the Guardians have the day off.

It’s Only 17

Thanks to a 10-1 victory over the Twins last night, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to 17.  While the White Sox are idle today, the Guardians battle the Orioles this afternoon.

18 To Go

Despite losing to the Twins last night, the White Sox saw their magic number to clinch the AL Central division drop to 18 thanks to the Tigers holding on against the Guardians, winning 6-0.  With the loss, the Guardians fall out of the final Wild Card spot.

The Railyards

Canal Edge, a Chicago-based developer led by future White Sox owner Justin Ishbia, used the lucrative Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend to release plans for a potential new stadium as part of a larger development across the Chicago River from the South Loop neighborhood known as The 78.  The site, currently a maintenance yard for Amtrak, was purchased by Ishbia’s private equity firm earlier this year.

Calling the space The Railyards, a new White Sox stadium would join a previously announced healthcare complex.  The stadium would sit alongside the river, stretching from Roosevelt Road in the north to 18th Street in the south, and bordered with the river on its east side and Canal Street to its west.  McDonald’s Park, the new stadium under construction for the Fire, would sit directly across the river.

In a statement, Canal Edge noted it is “currently beginning a multi-month study and feasibility review evaluating a range of factors from transportation to environmental impact. If feasible, this plan could be presented to Chicago White Sox leadership for consideration as one of the team’s ballpark options when its current lease in the state-owned ballpark ends.”  The team’s lease with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority for Rate Field ends following the 2029 season, which just happens to be the first year Ishbia could contractually buy out current White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and take full control of the franchise.

Playoffs Part The Second

With less than four weeks remaining in the 2026 season, both Chicago teams are primed to be heading to the postseason for the first time since 2020.  The Cubs got the ticketing process started a few weeks back and the White Sox joined the fray earlier this week.

Holding a three-game lead over the Guardians for the AL Central crown, the White Sox sent out post-season invoices to their season ticket holders on Monday for the first time since 2021.  Thanks to what I assume to be operational incompetence, I have no idea what tickets I would be getting, but it appears as though I would retain my normal seats.

The White Sox currently sit as the second seed in the American League, giving them the inside slot for a first-round bye.  The Guardians currently hold a one and a half game lead for the final Wild Card slot, so, even if they fall off for the division, they look to have a good path to the postseason, barring a huge collapse.

Fitbit 12 – Week 31

Yet another great week, as I surpassed my daily goal twice and finished above 40,000 steps for the reached my tenth straight week.  Things got off to a nice start on Sunday thanks to a morning walk, which left me 12 steps shy of 8100.  The return of Crosstown on Monday left me needing 40 more steps to hit 7900.  An abbreviated trip to Wrigley on Tuesday to see the White Sox battle the Cubs before the bad weather arrived left me just 16 steps shy of my daily goal of 7500.  Wednesday fell down quite a bit thanks to a trip into the office, ending with 4900 steps.  A day off and another visit to the south side for exciting White Sox baseball on Thursday pushed me back up to 7300 steps.  A doctor’s appointment on Friday followed by yet another trip to Rate Field got me up to 7100 steps.  Saturday wrapped up the week needing just 11 additional steps to reach 5800.

Fitbit 12 – Week 30

Another great week, as I reached my highest total of 10,000 step days in four years while also surpassing my total of the last two years combined.  The week got off to a nice start on Sunday thanks to a morning walk, which left me 13 steps shy of 6400.  Monday fell just short of surpassing my daily goal, needing just 12 steps to hit 7500.  Pope Hat night at Rate Field on Tuesday propelled me to 10,700 steps.  Wednesday fell down a bit, coming 27 steps away from 6400.  Despite a day off and another visit to the south side for exciting White Sox baseball on Thursday, it ended as the worst day of the week with just 5100 steps.  Things rebounded a bit on Friday, falling 8 steps away from 6600.  Another 3 steps on Saturday would have wrapped up the week with 7200.

Ending The Streak

With their 9-5 victory over the Tigers last night, the White Sox won their 63rd game of the season, ensuring that their franchise-worst streak of three-straight 100-loss seasons would come to an end.  Less than two years removed from having the most losses in MLB history, the White Sox find themselves in first place in the middle of August, with a 3.5 game lead over their closest competitor with just 41 games to go.
