\"side_oscar\"<\/a>With the Academy Awards scheduled for Sunday night, here’s my predictions for the non-acting awards.\u00a0 I likely have seen very few of these movies, so I will mostly be going on gut feel and word of mouth.<\/p>\n

Spike Jonze,<\/strong> Her<\/em><\/p>\n

Bob Nelson, Nebraska<\/em><\/p>\n

I haven’t seen any of these films yet.\u00a0 The backlash against Woody Allen after the Golden Globes will likely hurt him.\u00a0 I’m thinking Spike Jonze’s tale of falling in love with a Siri-like AI will take home the prize.<\/p>\n

Best Adapted Screenplay<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Billy Ray, Captain Phillips<\/em><\/p>\n

Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, Philomena<\/em><\/p>\n

Terence Winter, The Wolf of Wall Street<\/em><\/p>\n

Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street, with John Ridley taking home the Oscar for\u00a0his adaptation of the 1853 memoir.<\/p>\n

Best Animated Feature<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Croods<\/em><\/p>\n

The Wind Rises<\/em><\/p>\n

Despicable Me 2<\/em><\/p>\n

Ernest & Celestine<\/em><\/p>\n

Again,\u00a0I haven’t seen any of these and I’m likely not ever going to.\u00a0 That said,\u00a0Frozen<\/em> appears to be a hit for the ages, so I’m going to go wih that.<\/p>\n

The technical wizadry that was Gravity<\/em> should have no problem taking home this prize.<\/p>\n

Best Costume Design<\/strong><\/h3>\n

William Chang Suk Ping, The Grandmaster<\/em><\/p>\n

Catherine Martin, The Great Gatsby<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Patricia Norris, 12 Years a Slave<\/em><\/p>\n

There’s nothing Oscar voters for this category like more than period pieces, and this year gives them many to choose from. My guess is that the Roaring 20s will rule the day and that The Great Gatsby<\/em> will take home the prize.<\/p>\n

Best Documentary Feature<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Act of Killing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cutie and the Boxer<\/em><\/p>\n

Dirty Wars<\/em><\/p>\n

The Square<\/em><\/p>\n

20 Feet from Stardom<\/em><\/p>\n

I’ve never even heard of any of these, so this is a total shot in the dark.<\/p>\n

Again, this is a total guess for a category that I know nothing about.<\/p>\n

Unable to face a world where the Jackass crew would be Oscar winners, I’m assuming the duo responsible for Dallas Buyers Club<\/em> will take home the prize.<\/p>\n

I admit, I’m going for the name here since I haven’t seen any of these films. \u00a0But if his history is any indication, this is a strong choice.<\/p>\n
