August 2001"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/cd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2693\" title=\"cd\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/cd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a>After my tape deck crapped out in 1997, I was stuck listening to either the radio or full albums in whatever order the artist intended. \u00a0That all changed in 2001, when the new-fangled MP3 technology got combined with my new CD burner.<\/p>\n<p>I obviously didn&#8217;t know it at the time, but this CD would be the last I would make before the world changed on that early September morning. \u00a0This edition featured new music from Nelly Furtado, Weezer, Smash Mouth, and Eve.<\/p>\n<p>Nelly Furtado &#8211; I&#8217;m Like A Bird<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Prior to her current incarnation as a pop music princess, Furtado hit it big with this soulful hit that relied more on her voice than\u00a0a producer&#8217;s computer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a02 plays, most recently on 7\/30\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Mazzy Star &#8211; Hallah<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">After <em>Fade Into You<\/em> went huge, radio programmers looked to their previous album and found this gem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a08 plays, most recently on 2\/7\/2011<\/p>\n<p>Bif Naked &#8211; Lucky<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">One of the highlights of the Buffy soundtrack that led to me buying her debut CD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a04 plays, most recently on 8\/10\/2011<\/p>\n<p>Joey Scarbury &#8211; Believe It Or Not<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The theme song from <em>The Greatest American Hero<\/em> became far more successful than the show from which it was spawned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a05 plays, most recently on 5\/1\/2012<\/p>\n<p>John Sebastian &#8211; Welcome Back<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Another theme song, this one from <em>Welcome Back, Kotter<\/em>.\u00a0 This MP3 was ripped from the album, which you can tell from a little skip towards the end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a09 plays, most recently on 11\/19\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Liz Phair &amp; Material Issue &#8211;\u00a0The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Yet another television theme song, covered for a compilation of cartoon hits.\u00a0 I apparently never imported this CD into iTunes, a mistake I have now rectified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats: Never played<\/p>\n<p>Material Issue &#8211; Kim The Waitress<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The one big hit for the local band that seemed to be going places before singer Jim Ellison committed suicide in 1996.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a07 plays, most recently on 9\/19\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Weezer &#8211; Islands In The Sun<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The latest single from Weezer&#8217;s comeback album.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a01 play,\u00a0on 3\/28\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Foo Fighters &#8211; Learning To Fly<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">One of my least favorite Foo Fighter songs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a01 play, on 12\/1\/2010<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Blink-182 &#8211; I&#8217;m A Believer<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A bad cover of the Monkees classic that was recorded for the <em>Shrek<\/em> soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats: Never played<\/p>\n<p>Butthole Surfers &#8211; Pepper<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A weird alternative hit for the inappropriately named band from Texas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a01 play,\u00a0on 3\/16\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Dido &#8211; Hunter<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A song that I have completely blocked out of my mind and have not imported into iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>Liz Phair &#8211; Johnny Feelgood<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">One of my favorite album tracks from Liz Phair&#8217;s third album.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a04 plays, most recently on 9\/29\/2009<\/p>\n<p>DNA with Suzanne Vega &#8211;
