{"id":10962,"date":"2016-11-25T08:52:06","date_gmt":"2016-11-25T14:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=10962"},"modified":"2016-11-25T20:26:13","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T02:26:13","slug":"2017-hall-of-fame-ballot-the-newcomers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/2017-hall-of-fame-ballot-the-newcomers\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 Hall Of Fame Ballot \u2013 The Newcomers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/baseballhof.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8762\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/baseballhof.jpg\" alt=\"baseballhof\" width=\"816\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/baseballhof.jpg 816w, https:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/baseballhof-300x131.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The BBWAA released their ballot for the Hall of Fame class of 2017 last Monday.\u00a0 The results of the vote are due to be revealed on January 18th, with induction taking place next July. \u00a0After Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza\u00a0were elected in last year&#8217;s voting, the new ballot contains 15 holdovers along with 19 newcomers, which may start to cause a bit of a problem. \u00a0The current BBWAA rules continue to limit the number of votes on one ballot to 10, and there may be more than 10 deserving candidates,\u00a0so there will be too many qualified candidates fighting for limited spots in a shorter amount of time.\u00a0 Once again, the BBWAA and the Hall may find themselves with a mess on their hands.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, we looked at the returning candidates. \u00a0Today,\u00a0it\u2019s time to\u00a0look at\u00a0the newcomers and who may be thankful come January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Casey Blake<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Literally\u00a0has no chance to stay on the ballot for another year, let alone earn election at some point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pat Burrell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It should be a quick one and out for the longtime Phillie.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/174-orlando-cabrera\/072008-cabrera-03\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7420\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7420\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/072008-Cabrera-03-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"072008-Cabrera-03\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Orlando Cabrera<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The former Angels and White Sox shortstop has, again, put together a perfectly acceptable career, but will be lucky to get a sympathy vote from a hometown writer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike Cameron<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wow, this batch of newcomers is starting to look a little weak. \u00a0Cameron had a decent career, but will never be confused for a Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n<p><b>J.D.
