{"id":9380,"date":"2016-02-10T02:59:29","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T08:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=9380"},"modified":"2016-01-31T20:27:44","modified_gmt":"2016-02-01T02:27:44","slug":"the-ever-growing-10000-step-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/the-ever-growing-10000-step-club\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ever Growing 10,000 Step Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/the-10000-step-club-revisited\/\">winter<\/a>, as the GlobalFit program was wrapping up, I took my last look at the top 20 step days I&#8217;ve had since I first started tracking my steps way back in <a title=\"Global Fit Week 1\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/global-fit-week-1\/\">July of 2011<\/a>. \u00a0At the time, I had only surpassed the 10,000 step plateau 45 times. \u00a0In the year plus since then, I have managed to nearly double that number, raising the total to 81. \u00a0With my first year using the Fitbit coming to an end last week, I thought it would be appropriate to take a new look at my updated top 20 step days over the past 4 1\/2 years, featuring 8 new entries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5851\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\" alt=\"btn10K-4\" width=\"389\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg 389w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a>1: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/6\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 24,988 steps<\/p>\n<p>My best single day total came during my 2013\u00a0trip to Disney World. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles. \u00a0And yes, it still\u00a0bothers me that I didn&#8217;t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.<\/p>\n<p>2: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-3\/\">7\/27\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 20,592 steps<\/p>\n<p>My second highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race. \u00a0These 2 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.<\/p>\n<p>3:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/6\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 18,259 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first new addition to the list comes courtesy of my trip to Toronto last September. \u00a0This Sunday consisted of traversing around Toronto, with trips to\u00a0Royal Ontario Museum and, at night, the Molson Canadian Ampitheatre for the Oddball Comedy Fest.<\/p>\n<p>4:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/11\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 17,889 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another new addition thanks to my trip to Toronto. \u00a0My last day in the city was spent at\u00a0the Eaton Centre mall, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a few other stops.<\/p>\n<p>5: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/8\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 17,852 steps<\/p>\n<p>My now-fifth highest output brings us back to Disney World, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>6: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-31\/\">9\/5\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 16,083 steps<\/p>\n<p>We head back to Toronto for my sixth highest day, my first full day in the city. \u00a0There was exploring along the riverfront and, of course, a trip to Rogers Centre for a Blue Jays game.<\/p>\n<p>7: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 12\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/gf4-week-12\/\">9\/23\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 15,728 steps<\/p>\n<p>This total was accomplished thanks to the 2014 Sprint &amp; Stride 5K race that was held at work.<\/p>\n<p>8: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10\/\">9\/9\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,957 steps<\/p>\n<p>My eighth highest total comes thanks to a Sunday in Belfast spent walking from our hotel, down to the Titanic museum, and then back again.<\/p>\n<p>9:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/7\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 14,940 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day of 2013&#8217;s vacation to Disney World, this day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>10: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/fitbit-week-23\/\">7\/6\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 14,926 steps<\/p>\n<p>We round out the top ten with my first non-vacation new addition. \u00a0This total was a combination of work followed by a trip down to US Cellular Field to see the pitching duel between Chris Sale and Mark Buehrle.<\/p>\n<p>11: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/gfy2-week-3\/\">7\/28\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,668 steps<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural BTN 5K places about 6,000 steps below the one from a year later. \u00a0This one involved less confusion and more driving.<\/p>\n<p>12: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/fitbit-week-16\/\">5\/18\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 14,104 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another new addition makes the list thanks to an after work trip down to US Cellular Field to see the White Sox, this time versus the Indians.<\/p>\n<p>13: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-31\/\">9\/7\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 13,970 steps<\/p>\n<p>Back to Canada for this entry, and a trip down to Niagara Falls.<\/p>\n<p>14: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 39\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/globalfit-iii-week-39\/\">4\/3\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,652 steps<\/p>\n<p>My second day in San Diego last April, which included a walk around downtown looking for the Elephant &amp; Castle and a nighttime trip to the marine base Miramar.<\/p>\n<p>15:\u00a0<a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 4\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/gf4-week-4\/\">7\/26\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,636 steps<\/p>\n<p>This entry comes from my trip to Minneapolis last summer with Danny and Michael. \u00a0On this day, we went to the Mall of America to enjoy some miniature golf before heading over to Target Field at night to see the White Sox defeat the Twins.<\/p>\n<p>16: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-30\/\">8\/29\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 13,517 steps<\/p>\n<p>A Foo Fighters concert at Wrigley Field was the main thrust behind this day&#8217;s total.<\/p>\n<p>17:\u00a0<a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 39\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/globalfit-iii-week-39\/\">4\/2\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,384 steps<\/p>\n<p>My first day in San Diego last April, which included trips through 3 airports and a walk around the Gaslamp District before an evening spent aboard the USS Midway.<\/p>\n<p>18: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/fitbit-week-28\/\">8\/11\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 13,184 steps<\/p>\n<p>After being denied a donut due to my \u201cunfavorable\u201d biometric numbers, I came home from work and took a long walk around the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>19: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 49\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-49\/\">6\/9\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 13,124 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another entry from the Disney trip, this time a day spent entirely at Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n<p>20: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 9\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/gf4-week-9\/\">9\/6\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,048<\/p>\n<p>Our final entry makes the list thanks to a trip downtown with a friend from Belfast, where we traipsed around town to try and take an architecture cruise (we were too late), dinner at Weber Grill, and, finally, Garfunkel &amp;
