\"MLB:<\/a>The Baseball Writers of America have announced the finalists for their awards for the just completed baseball season. \u00a0It is a good bet that few\u00a0of my original\u00a0predictions<\/a> for the winners will be accurate. \u00a0Hopefully, these new predictions will be slightly better, especially since I’ll have a 33% chance of being right.<\/p>\n

American League<\/h3>\n

Most Valuable Player:<\/strong> Lorenzo Cain, Josh Donaldson, Mike Trout<\/p>\n

Mike Trout, who won last year’s award, was my pre-season selection to win again this year. While I think Josh Donaldson will get plenty of support, I’m going to stick with Trout to win.<\/p>\n

Cy Young Award:<\/strong>\u00a0Sonny Gray, Dallas Keuchel, David Price<\/p>\n

Well, the one year I didn’t pick David Price as my pre-season pick, he makes his way into the top 3. \u00a0That said, I’m thinking Dallas Keuchel, of the upstart Astros, will take home the award.<\/p>\n

Manager of the Year:<\/strong>\u00a0Jeff Banister, A.J. Hinch, Paul Molitor<\/p>\n

Once again, I didn’t make any predictions for this award prior to the season. \u00a0The three nominees all lead surprising teams into contention for most of the year. \u00a0My guess is A.J. Hinch wins the award for leading the Astros to the post-season for the first time since 2005.<\/p>\n

Rookie of the Year:<\/strong>\u00a0Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor, Miguel Sano<\/p>\n

Another award I didn’t predict prior to the season. \u00a0This one should be a no-brainer, with Carlos Correa\u00a0taking home the award.<\/p>\n

National League<\/h3>\n

Most Valuable Player:<\/strong> Paul Goldschmidt, Bryce Harper, Joey Votto<\/p>\n

I picked Giancarlo Stanton to bounce back from a broken jaw to win this award, but he suffered through another injury plagues season. \u00a0Instead, Bryce Harper, despite a disappointing year for the Nationals, should easily take home this prize.<\/p>\n

Cy Young Award:<\/strong> Jake Arrieta, Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw<\/p>\n

My initial guess of Stephen Strasburg was a calculated risk that, once again, has backfired. \u00a0Instead, it is likely to be a two horse race, coming down to either Jake Arrieta or Zack Greinke. \u00a0My guess is Greinke and Kershaw split the Dodger vote, letting Arrieta sneak through and win the award.<\/p>\n

Manager of the Year:<\/strong> Terry Collins, Joe Maddon, Mike Matheny<\/p>\n

While a strong case could be made for any of these men, my guess is Joe Maddon will win for taking the Cubs to the playoffs following a 97 win season.<\/p>\n

\"KrisBryant\"<\/a>Rookie of the Year:<\/strong>\u00a0Kris Bryant, Matt Duffy, Jung Ho Kang<\/p>\n

While a case could be made that Kris Bryant’s name was inscribed on this award all the way back in spring training, there is little doubt that the Cub third baseman mostly lived up to the early hype.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
