{"id":8819,"date":"2015-10-04T03:19:21","date_gmt":"2015-10-04T09:19:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=8819"},"modified":"2015-09-27T15:56:59","modified_gmt":"2015-09-27T21:56:59","slug":"sprinted-and-strode-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/sprinted-and-strode-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Sprinted And Strode Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/2015sprintstride.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8538\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/2015sprintstride.jpg\" alt=\"2015sprintstride\" width=\"653\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/2015sprintstride.jpg 653w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/2015sprintstride-300x116.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><\/a>Two Thursdays back, Allstate held their annual Sprint and Stride event, a 5K race around campus to benefit breast cancer research.\u00a0 After successfully completing the race <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/sprinted-and-strode\/\">last year<\/a>, I signed up again this year, along with some co-workers, to get out in the afternoon sun and enjoy getting paid to exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The race once again started over near Willow, which meant that in addition to the 5K,\u00a0there was the long walk back to South post-race.\u00a0\u00a0NBC news personality and breast cancer survivor\u00a0Zoraida Sambolin was back to kick off the festivities, after an annoying DJ and Allstate sponsored finished up their dog and pony show.\u00a0 Once the race got going, I quickly found that, once again,\u00a0things would be different than my past, non-Allstate\u00a05K experiences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015sands.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8834\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015sands.jpg\" alt=\"2015sands\" width=\"694\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015sands.jpg 694w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015sands-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 694px) 100vw, 694px\" \/><\/a>Just like last year, my time did not register, so I must be doing something wrong.\u00a0 I must have finished somewhere between 57:32.16 and 57:41.36, which was the finishing times of the people I was with.\u00a0 That&#8217;s about 2 minutes slower than last year, which I blame once again on an inability to get around slow people in front of me.<\/p>\n<p>Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I&#8217;ll be back out there next year, once again hoping to improve my time and, probably, once again disappointed that I won&#8217;t.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Thursdays back, Allstate held their annual Sprint and Stride event, a 5K race around campus to benefit breast cancer research.\u00a0 After successfully completing the race last year, I signed up again this year, along with some co-workers, to get out in the afternoon sun and enjoy getting paid to exercise.
