sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a>The Cubs kicked off the 2015 baseball season by hosting the Cardinals Sunday night, giving the world their first look at the first stage of Wrigley Field renovations.\u00a0 Despite the best laid plans of Crane Kenney and the Cubs business team, the stadium was, sadly, not ready for prime time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/B7lCcWaCcAAeiq8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7525\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/B7lCcWaCcAAeiq8-300x261.jpg\" alt=\"B7lCcWaCcAAeiq8\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" 599w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>As expected, the renovations that were planned to be completed over this past offseason were not completed on time.\u00a0 The Cubs had peviously announced that the bleachers would not be ready for the beginning of the season.\u00a0 To mask their emptiness, they were covered with tarps featuring images of the late Ernie Banks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/RFBleachers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7881\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/RFBleachers.jpg\" alt=\"RFBleachers\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" not been installed yet, but the big Budweiser sign certainly was in place.\u00a0 There were small changes to the centerfield scoreboard: removing the ribbon board underneath the board and replacing it with the new between-inning timer.\u00a0 In left field, the new\u00a0monster video board was in place, having been installed within days of Sunday&#8217;s ballgame.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/LFBleachers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7882\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/LFBleachers.jpg\" alt=\"LFBleachers\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/LFBleachers.jpg 648w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/LFBleachers-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/LFBleachers-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a>Once the game started, the fact that the stadium was not suited to be opened for public use became apparent.\u00a0 Part of the renovations that have not been completed had a number of restrooms closed.\u00a0 During the game, 2 additonal restrooms were shut down due to plumbing problems, causing nearly hour long lines to get in to the remaining bathrooms.\u00a0 The thought of supplementing the available facilities with some temporary solutions apparently did not occur to the Cubs braintrust, forcing them to send out an apology to season ticket holders Monday night after the story went national.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CubApology.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7883\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CubApology.jpg\" alt=\"CubApology\" width=\"482\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CubApology.jpg 482w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CubApology-287x300.jpg 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" \/><\/a>Now that the season is underway, the Cubs are now saying that the total renovation project, originally expected to take 4 years, will now likely stretch to 5.\u00a0 The bleachers are now expected to partially open in mid-to-late May with the full seating likely not available until the end of June.\u00a0 Full bathroom capabilities are not expected until the end of May.\u00a0 While the Cubs claim that their fans did not want to move to another stadium, either US Cellular Field or Miller Park, during the renovations, it seems clear that the option should have at least been explored.\u00a0 In the long run, Wrigley Field will continue to be the home of the Cubs for many years to come.\u00a0 At some point, these missteps will likely
