{"id":7449,"date":"2015-01-22T07:05:48","date_gmt":"2015-01-22T13:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=7449"},"modified":"2015-01-20T20:46:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-21T02:46:49","slug":"the-10000-step-club-revisited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/the-10000-step-club-revisited\/","title":{"rendered":"The 10,000 Step Club Revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last <a title=\"10,000 Step Club\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/10000-step-club\/\">spring<\/a>, I took an initial look at the top 20 step days I&#8217;ve had since starting the GlobalFit program way back in <a title=\"Global Fit Week 1\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/global-fit-week-1\/\">July of 2011<\/a>. \u00a0At the time, I had only surpassed the 10,000 step plateau 31 times. \u00a0In the 8 months since then, I have managed to raise that number to 45. \u00a0With the GlobalFit program officially wrapping up earlier this\u00a0week, I thought it would be appropriate to take a new, and final, look at my updated top 20 step days over the past 3 1\/2 years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5851\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\" alt=\"btn10K-4\" width=\"389\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg 389w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a>1: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/6\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 24,988 steps<\/p>\n<p>My best single day total came during my 2013\u00a0trip to Disney World. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles. \u00a0And yes, it still\u00a0bothers me that I didn&#8217;t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.<\/p>\n<p>2: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-3\/\">7\/27\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 20,592 steps<\/p>\n<p>My second highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race. \u00a0These 2 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.<\/p>\n<p>3: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/8\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 17,852 steps<\/p>\n<p>My third highest output brings us back to Disney World, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>4: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 12\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/gf4-week-12\/\">9\/23\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 15,728 steps<\/p>\n<p>A new addition since my original list, this total was accomplished thanks to the Sprint &amp; Stride 5K race that was held at work last fall.<\/p>\n<p>5: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10\/\">9\/9\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,957 steps<\/p>\n<p>We round out the top 5 with\u00a0my highest total outside of the United States. \u00a0A Sunday in Belfast spent walking from our hotel, down to the Titanic museum, and then back again.<\/p>\n<p>6:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/7\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 14,940 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day of 2013&#8217;s vacation to Disney World, this day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->7: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/gfy2-week-3\/\">7\/28\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,668 steps<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural BTN 5K places about 6,000 steps below the one from a year later. \u00a0This one involved less confusion and more driving.<\/p>\n<p>8: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 39\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/globalfit-iii-week-39\/\">4\/3\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,652 steps<\/p>\n<p>My second day in San Diego last April, which included a walk around downtown looking for the Elephant &amp; Castle and a nighttime trip to the marine base Miramar.<\/p>\n<p>9: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 4\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/gf4-week-4\/\">7\/26\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,636 steps<\/p>\n<p>This entry comes from my trip to Minneapolis last summer with Danny and Michael. \u00a0On this day, we went to the Mall of America to enjoy some miniature golf before heading over to Target Field at night to see the White Sox defeat the Twins.<\/p>\n<p>10:\u00a0<a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 39\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/globalfit-iii-week-39\/\">4\/2\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,384 steps<\/p>\n<p>My first day in San Diego last April, which included trips through 3 airports and a walk around the Gaslamp District before an evening spent aboard the USS Midway.<\/p>\n<p>11: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 49\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-49\/\">6\/9\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 13,124 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another entry from the Disney trip, this time a day spent entirely at Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n<p>12: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 9\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/gf4-week-9\/\">9\/6\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 13,048<\/p>\n<p>Another new entry, thanks to a trip downtown with a friend from Belfast, where we traipsed around town to try and take an architecture cruise (we were too late), dinner at Weber Grill, and, finally, Garfunkel &amp; Oates at the House of Blues.<\/p>\n<p>13:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/5\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 12,916 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the Disney trip, which included an early morning trip to the airport, followed by an afternoon at the Magic Kingdom once we arrived in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>14: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 37\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/global-fit-week-37\/\">3\/21\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,644 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first day on this list that I have no idea what I did. \u00a0Apparently, these 10,000 step days were a little more commonplace back during the first year I did this, so I didn&#8217;t note anything out of the ordinary to explain this total.<\/p>\n<p>15: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10 Revisited\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10-revisited\/\">9\/15\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,324 steps<\/p>\n<p>The day was intended to have a limited number of steps, since I should have been flying home from Belfast. \u00a0Instead, I ended up staying an extra day with Jeff and Cary and we ended up walking around the city, shopping and sight-seeing. \u00a0All while my undiagnosed sciatica was in full swing.<\/p>\n<p>16: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 38\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/04\/global-fit-week-38\/\">3\/27\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,312 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day with no record of what I did.<\/p>\n<p>17: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 51\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-51\/\">6\/27\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 12,196 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another new entry, comprised of a day at work followed by a trip to US Cellular Field with Michael for Grinder Bash.<\/p>\n<p>18: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 5\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/gfy2-week-5\/\">8\/7\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,100 steps<\/p>\n<p>A post-work trip in to the city for dinner and a Garbage show at the Metro.<\/p>\n<p>19: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 44\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/globalfit-iii-week-44\/\">5\/6\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 11,848 steps<\/p>\n<p>The final new entry comes to us thanks to a trip downtown to see the Bean, followed by a season ticket holder event at Wrigley Field.<\/p>\n<p>20:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10 Revisited\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10-revisited\/\">9\/14\/2012<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;
