{"id":64,"date":"2010-01-03T12:14:11","date_gmt":"2010-01-03T18:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=64"},"modified":"2011-08-28T16:56:36","modified_gmt":"2011-08-28T22:56:36","slug":"book-1-of-52-the-hound-of-the-baskervilles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/book-1-of-52-the-hound-of-the-baskervilles\/","title":{"rendered":"Book 1 (of 52) &#8211; The Hound of the Baskervilles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 284px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Hound of the Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle\" src=\"http:\/\/g-ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/G\/01\/ciu\/87\/99\/e111793509a077c3903a3110.L.jpg\" alt=\"The Hound of the Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle\" width=\"274\" height=\"460\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Hound of the Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In honor of the new film, and with London fresh in my mind, I decided to pull this classic off the bookshelf.\u00a0 I started it last year (technically I started it in 1988*), but we&#8217;ll still count it towards the 2010 total.<\/p>\n<p>I found it interesting that, for a Sherlock Holmes novel, Dr. Watson was the main character and Holmes himself barely appears, save for\u00a0brief appearances at the beginning and the end.\u00a0 Seeing as how this is the only Sherlock Holmes tale I&#8217;ve read, however, this may not be an unusual thing.\u00a0 I did enjoy the trip to 1800s London, and\u00a0how some of the sights named in the book I had just visited.\u00a0 Overall, a worthy starting place for this 52 book challenge and, probably, the most &#8220;scholarly&#8221; choice of the year.<\/p>\n<p>*I was originally supposed to read this for Freshman English back in high school.\u00a0 I remember renting the movie the night before the test, if not the movie itself.\u00a0 About half way through the book, I found the small slip of paper I was using as a bookmark, so I guess I never did get through it back then.\u00a0 Hopefully I passed the test.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of the new film, and with London fresh in my mind, I decided to pull this classic off the bookshelf.\u00a0 I started it last year (technically I started it in 1988*), but we&#8217;ll still count it towards the 2010 total.
