{"id":5848,"date":"2014-04-04T10:47:37","date_gmt":"2014-04-04T16:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=5848"},"modified":"2014-04-01T13:02:12","modified_gmt":"2014-04-01T19:02:12","slug":"10000-step-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/10000-step-club\/","title":{"rendered":"10,000 Step Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Way back in <a title=\"Global Fit Week 1\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/global-fit-week-1\/\">July of 2011<\/a>, when I started this whole GlobalFit exercise (pun somewhat intended), I had the silly thought that since 10,000 steps was what is generally considered active, that I would use that as a guideline of something to ascribe to.\u00a0 Now, nearly 3 years later, I find that I&#8217;ve actually crossed that plateau only 31 times.\u00a0 As I spend today flying home from California, with the expectation that I will be adding at least one or two days to this list, I thought it would be sobering, and perhaps inspiring, to look back at the top 20 of those 31 days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5851\" alt=\"btn10K-4\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\" width=\"389\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg 389w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a>1: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/6\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 24,988 steps<\/p>\n<p>My best single day total came during last summer&#8217;s trip to Disney World. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles. \u00a0And yes, it does bother me that I didn&#8217;t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.<\/p>\n<p>2: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-3\/\">7\/27\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 20,592 steps<\/p>\n<p>My second highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race. \u00a0These 2 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.<\/p>\n<p>3: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/8\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 17,852 steps<\/p>\n<p>My third highest output brings us back to Disney World, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon. \u00a0Sadly, this also ends our collection of days greater than 15,000.<\/p>\n<p>4: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10\/\">9\/9\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,957 steps<\/p>\n<p>The fourth best day I&#8217;ve had in the last 3 years is my highest total outside of the United States. \u00a0A Sunday in Belfast spent walking down to the Titanic museum<\/p>\n<p>5:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/7\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 14,940 steps<\/p>\n<p>We round out the top 5 with another day of last June&#8217;s vacation to Disney World. \u00a0This day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->6: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/gfy2-week-3\/\">7\/28\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,668 steps<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural BTN 5K places about 6,000 steps below the one from a year later. \u00a0This one involved less confusion and more driving.<\/p>\n<p>7: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 49\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-49\/\">6\/9\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 13,124 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another entry from the Disney trip, this time a day spent entirely at Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n<p>8:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/5\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 12,916 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the Disney trip, which included an early morning trip to the airport, followed by an afternoon at the Magic Kingdom once we arrived in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>9: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 37\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/global-fit-week-37\/\">3\/21\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,644 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first day on this list that I have no idea what I did. \u00a0Apparently, these 10,000 step days were a little more commonplace back during the first year I did this, so I didn&#8217;t note anything out of the ordinary to explain this total.<\/p>\n<p>10: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10 Revisited\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10-revisited\/\">9\/15\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,324 steps<\/p>\n<p>The day was intended to have a limited number of steps, since I should have been flying home from Belfast. \u00a0Instead, I ended up staying an extra day with Jeff and Cary and we ended up walking around the city, shopping and sight-seeing. \u00a0All while my undiagnosed sciatica was in full swing.<\/p>\n<p>11: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 38\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/04\/global-fit-week-38\/\">3\/27\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,312 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day with no record of what I did.<\/p>\n<p>12: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 5\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/gfy2-week-5\/\">8\/7\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 12,100 steps<\/p>\n<p>A post-work trip in to the city for dinner and a Garbage show at the Metro.<\/p>\n<p>13:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10 Revisited\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10-revisited\/\">9\/14\/2012<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 11,803 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day from my most recent trip to Belfast, this one spent travelling to Carrickfergus Castle.<\/p>\n<p>14:\u00a0<a title=\"Global Fit Week 37\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/global-fit-week-37\/\">3\/19\/2012<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 11,796 steps<\/p>\n<p>Yet another day with no information on what I did. \u00a0March of 2012 was a pretty active month.<\/p>\n<p>15: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 8\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/global-fit-week-8\/\">8\/29\/2011<\/a> &#8211; 11,540 steps<\/p>\n<p>A morning trip to the gym followed by a White Sox game.<\/p>\n<p>16: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 2\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-2\/\">7\/19\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 11,536 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day whose total can be attributed to a trip to the ol&#8217; ballpark.<\/p>\n<p>17: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 14\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/global-fit-week-14\/\">10\/10\/2011<\/a> &#8211; 11,424 steps<\/p>\n<p>An exciting work day that allowed for some walking around the campus.<\/p>\n<p>18: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 10\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/global-fit-week-10\/\">9\/12\/2011<\/a> &#8211; 11,360 steps<\/p>\n<p>Once again, a trip to see the White Sox contributed to a nice total.<\/p>\n<p>19: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 4\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/gfy2-week-4\/\">7\/30\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 11,284 steps<\/p>\n<p>A combination of walking around the grounds at work followed by a trip to the bowling alley.<\/p>\n<p>19: <a title=\"Global Fit Week 14\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/global-fit-week-14\/\">10\/14\/2011<\/a> &#8211;
