The core component of <em>Destination: You<\/em> is the Tracker, which uses an accelerometer to accurately calculate the number of steps, distance walked, calories burned and time of activity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I thought I could use the motivation to get up and move around a bit more (and maybe even go to the gym), so I signed up.\u00a0 The results from week 1 were not exactly pretty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Week1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-574\" title=\"Week1\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Week1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"341\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Week1.jpg 450w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Week1-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t get the trackers until Tuesday afternoon, so that explains the low total there.\u00a0 According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewalkingsite.com\/10000steps.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Walking Site<\/a>, a sedentary person\u00a0averages only 1,000 to 3,000 steps\u00a0per day, and I am barely surpassing that.\u00a0 Of course, this doesn&#8217;t count any steps I take at home, since I don&#8217;t wear my shoes in the house, but I doubt that would provide any\u00a0significant increase.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I am posting this in order to shame myself into doing better and to track any progress I may make.\u00a0 They say 10,000 steps per day is a good guideline.\u00a0 After 1 week, I barely approached the halfway point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At work, we&#8217;ve started a &#8220;new program&#8221; that &#8220;encourages you to track your steps and help you to focus on your fitness in a simple and accessible way.
