{"id":2683,"date":"2012-11-05T10:40:47","date_gmt":"2012-11-05T16:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=2683"},"modified":"2012-11-05T14:17:21","modified_gmt":"2012-11-05T20:17:21","slug":"mix-tape-monday-tape-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/mix-tape-monday-tape-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Mix Tape Monday &#8211; Tape #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/dc90.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1479\" title=\"dc90\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/dc90.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>Earlier this year, we looked at the 20 volumes of mix tapes that I had made between 1989 and 1995, containing my favorite songs that I had gathered either from the radio, a cassette tape, or (eventually) CD.\u00a0 In addition to those, I had 2 tapes that consisted of songs that I liked, but, for differing reasons, did not make it to the main set.\u00a0 I thought it would be fun to take another look back at those two cassettes, how much I listen to those songs now, and why they did not qualify for the main set of mix tapes. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the second of those tapes, which has degraded much more than any of the other tapes I listened to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Side A<\/h3>\n<p>Queen &#8211; Bohemian Rhapsody<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This song, originally a hit in the 70s, was given new life thanks to its inclusion on the <em>Wayne&#8217;s World<\/em> soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a07 plays, most recently on 9\/19\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Soul Asylum &#8211; Somebody To Shove<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">My sister had this CD, so I copied over this minor hit that I had missed upon its initial release.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a014 plays, most recently on 5\/25\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Temple Of The Dog &#8211; Hunger Strike<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Prior to their first album, the members of Pearl Jam joined up with Soundgarden for this side project meant as a tribute to Andrew Wood, frontman for Mother Love Bone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a08\u00a0plays, most recently on 7\/11\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Soul Asylum &#8211; Runaway Train<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Another Soul Asylum song borrowed from my sister&#8217;s CD. \u00a0Is Black Gold far behind?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a08 plays, most recently on 7\/30\/2012<\/p>\n<p>K7 &#8211; Come Baby Come<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">One of a long list of hip hop one hit wonders who sang about getting down with the local women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a02 plays, most recently on 5\/31\/2009<\/p>\n<p>New Order &#8211; Bizarre Love Triangle<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The 80&#8217;s pop hit was brought back to the musical forefront thanks to the cover version by Frente!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a03 plays, most recently on 3\/23\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Smashing Pumpkins &#8211; Today<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Another example of a big hit from a band that I ultimately liked (although in this case, eventually lost any and all taste for) that didn&#8217;t merit inclusion on my main set of favorites cassettes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">iTunes stats:\u00a07 plays, most recently on 6\/3\/2011<\/p>\n<p>Frente!
