{"id":22075,"date":"2024-12-31T04:17:28","date_gmt":"2024-12-31T10:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=22075"},"modified":"2024-12-29T12:03:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-29T18:03:29","slug":"2024-the-year-in-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2024\/12\/2024-the-year-in-books\/","title":{"rendered":"2024: The Year In Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024books.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22326\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024books.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"912\" height=\"846\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024books.jpg 912w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024books-300x278.jpg 300w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024books-768x712.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px\" \/><\/a>As 2024 comes to a close, my fourth full year of remote working, I managed to once again surpass my previous records by completing a whopping 61 books, two books more than my previous high set last year and my fourth consecutive year completing the 52 books in 52 weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2024\/01\/52-books-in-52-weeks-2024-edition\/\">challenge<\/a>.\u00a0 I completed the challenge in mid-November and surpassed last year\u2019s total in mid-December.\u00a0 I read 22,622 pages, by far my highest total of all time and just the second time I&#8217;ve managed to surpass 20.000 pages.<\/p>\n<p>Of those books, only five were non-fiction and, of the remaining 56 novels, only five were tied to a TV show, either as the source material or as a tie-in.\u00a0 None of the books came out of my dwindling \u201cto-read\u201d drawer, with two hard covers, two paperbacks, 53 e-books and no audiobooks.\u00a0 I continued to take advantage of my library card, which helped me procure 46 of the books I consumed throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Over 69% of the books I read this year were by authors I had read before.
