\"\"<\/a>Six months ago<\/a>, I made my annual predictions as to who would win what.\u00a0 With the Wild Card round in full swing, it is time to revisit those predictions and see what, if anything, I got right.<\/p>\n

American League<\/h3>\n

East<\/strong>: Rays<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, after missing the postseason for the first time since 2016, the Yankees stormed back to take the AL East crown.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the Rays struggled early and never really found their groove.<\/p>\n

Central<\/strong>: Guardians<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Would you look at that?\u00a0 I got one right, as the Guardians led a resurgent AL Central for most of the season.<\/p>\n

West<\/strong>: Mariners<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Mariners did lead the division for a while, but, at the end of the day, the Astros managed to win the division for the fourth straight year and the seventh year out of the last eight.<\/p>\n

Wild Cards:<\/strong> Astros, Blue Jays, Yankees<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess I can take solace in the fact that two of these choices are headed to the post-season, though as division champions.\u00a0 A surprisingly strong AL Central, thanks to getting to face the putrid White Sox many times, landed two Wild Card spots with the Royals and the Tigers.\u00a0 The Orioles snagged the top spot.<\/p>\n

AL Champion:<\/strong> Yankees<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Yankees look to have the hardest path, having to face either the Tigers, the hottest team in baseball heading into the post-season, or the Orioles, against whom they lost eight of their thirteen contests this year.\u00a0 I hate to say it, but the Astros may make another appearance in the Fall Classic.<\/p>\n

Cy Young:<\/b> Tristan McKenzie<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

McKenzie struggled this year and split the year between Cleveland and Triple A Columbus.\u00a0 Tiger starter Tarik Skubal looks to be the front-runner.<\/p>\n

MVP:<\/strong> Julio Rodriguez<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Another wrong guess.\u00a0 Aaron Judge will probably take it home for the second time in three seasons.<\/p>\n

National\u00a0League<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

East<\/strong>: Braves<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Phillies took home the title, while the Braves fall back to the Wild Card.<\/p>\n

Central<\/strong>: Cardinals<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Cardinals once again bottomed out this year, letting the Brewers once again win the Central crown.<\/p>\n

West<\/strong>: Dodgers<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Once again, I got the West prediction right, thanks to the Dodgers winning their eleventh division title in twelve years.<\/p>\n

Wild Cards:<\/strong> Cubs, Padres, Phillies<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One out of three, with another one winning a division, isn’t too bad.\u00a0 The aforementioned Braves join the Padres and the Mets in heading to the post-season.<\/p>\n

NL Champion:<\/strong> Dodgers<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t see any reason why they won’t<\/p>\n

Cy Young:<\/strong> Aaron Nola<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’m going to say the resurgent Chris Sale (remember him?) brings home his first.<\/p>\n

MVP:<\/strong> Fernando Tatis Jr.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Tatis had a good bounce-back year, but Shohei Ohtani will win hands down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
