\"\"<\/a>The Baseball Writers of America have announced the finalists for their awards for the just completed baseball season, which will be announced next week. \u00a0It is a good bet that few of my original\u00a0predictions<\/a>\u00a0for the winners will be accurate. \u00a0Hopefully, these new predictions will be slightly better, especially since I\u2019ll have a 33% chance of being right.<\/p>\n

American League<\/h3>\n

Most Valuable Player:<\/strong> Shohei Ohtani, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien<\/p>\n

Shohei Ohtani should run away and hide with this award.\u00a0 But, an early end to his season and perhaps some burnout from voters picking the same name every year may open the door a bit.\u00a0 That said, these awards were voted on prior to the post-season, so the Rangers World Series win won’t move the needle at all, so I’m going to guess Ohtani still gets it.<\/p>\n

Cy Young Award:<\/strong> Gerrit Cole, Kevin Gausman, Sonny Gray<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole seems the obvious choice here.\u00a0 He leads the three finalists in nearly every category and managed a WHIP below one in over 200 innings.<\/p>\n

Manager of the Year:<\/strong> Bruce Bochy, Kevin Cash, Brandon Hyde<\/p>\n

As usual, I didn\u2019t make any predictions for this award prior to the season.\u00a0 If voting took place after the World Series, then Bochy would be a shoo-in.\u00a0 However, since the early playoff exits of the Orioles and the Rays don’t get taken into account, Brandon Hyde should win this award after leading the Orioles to an AL East title.<\/p>\n

Rookie of the Year:<\/strong> Tanner Bibee, Triston Casas, Gunnar Henderson<\/p>\n

Another award I didn\u2019t predict prior to the season.\u00a0 I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Gunnar Henderson will win, since he in the only one of these three that I have heard of previously.<\/p>\n

National League<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/span>Most Valuable Player:<\/strong> Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr., Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman<\/p>\n

Really, this comes down to Acu\u00f1a and Betts and my bet (see what I did there?) is on Acu\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

Cy Young Award:<\/strong> Zac Gallen, Blake Snell, Logan Webb<\/p>\n

This one is a little tough.\u00a0 Snell has the highest WAR and the best ERA but pitched at least 30 fewer innings than the other two.\u00a0 My guess is Snell, but it will be a lot closer than most of these other awards.<\/p>\n

Manager of the Year:<\/strong> Craig Counsell, Skip Schumaker, Brian Snitker<\/p>\n

Marlins playoff appearances are few and far between, so Schumaker would be my guess to take home this award.<\/p>\n

Rookie of the Year:<\/strong> Corbin Carroll, James Outman, Kodai Senga<\/p>\n

Maybe it is just recency bias, but I’m going with Carroll, who helped lead the Diamondbacks to an NL pennant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
