Today, we revisit those mix tapes for the fourth time and see how, or if, the soundtrack of my youth still resonates in today\u2019s digital world and how much has changed over the past four years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-19909\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"759\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cds.jpg 448w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/cds-177x300.jpg 177w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a>I got my first CD player, and my first CD, for Christmas in 1991.\u00a0 My sister and I were going to Florida to celebrate Christmas with the grandparents, so we celebrated at home early.\u00a0 In order to enjoy my new gift while I was gone, I added two songs from that CD, Poison&#8217;s <em>Swallow This Live<\/em>, to this collection.<\/p>\n<p>My CD collection grew slowly, being a poor high school student.\u00a0 When I left for college that next August, I had added five CDs to the collection: Def Leppard&#8217;s <em>Adrenalize<\/em>, the so-called Black Album from Metallica, <em>Use Your Illusion II<\/em> by Guns N&#8217; Roses, Boyz II Men&#8217;s <em>Motownphilly<\/em>, and <em>C.M.B.<\/em> from Color Me Badd.\u00a0 In college, things started to grow more quickly and, once I got out of college and had some real disposable income, things went a little crazy.\u00a0 I have CDs where not only is there not a song on there that I like, but there isn&#8217;t even a song that I know.<\/p>\n<p>That slowed down a bit as technology advanced, replacing physical media with digital downloads and, eventually, streaming.\u00a0 I can count on one hand the number of CDs I&#8217;ve bought in the last eight years.\u00a0 The question now is what do I do with 30+ years&#8217; worth of CDs that are never used?\u00a0 Everything is ripped to my computer and the only CD player I have now is that computer.\u00a0 Plus, I could use the space that a cabinet full of untouched CDs is taking up in the office.\u00a0 Something to consider as I remake my workspace now that I am a full-time remote worker.<\/p>\n<p>Volume 5 takes us from the end of my junior year of high school, through the summer, and all the way to spring of my senior year, from mid 1991 through early 1992, and once again features a healthy dose of hair metal and pop.<\/p>\n<h3>Side A<\/h3>\n<p>Firehouse &#8211; <em>Don&#8217;t Treat Me Bad<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 21 plays, most recently on 11\/12\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Peaking at #19 on the Billboard charts, the first hit from Firehouse picked up nine new listens over the past four years.<\/p>\n<p>Color Me Badd &#8211; <em>I Wanna Sex You Up<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 19 plays, most recently on 12\/12\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Featured on the soundtrack for <em>New Jack City<\/em>, the first single from the R&amp;B boy band, which I had on cassingle, added five new spins since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Boyz II Men &#8211; <em>Motownphilly<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 26 plays, most recently on 8\/20\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The debut release from the Philadelphia crooners, which hit #3 on the Billboard charts, had a healthy seven play increase since last we checked.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce &#8211; <em>Don&#8217;t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 43 plays, most recently on 9\/27\/2022<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The fourth single off of <em>Dr. Feelgood<\/em>, originally recorded off 103.5 The Blaze, gets a nice thirteen listen increase thanks to its use at Guaranteed Rate Field after strikeouts from White Sox pitchers.<\/p>\n<p>Slaughter &#8211; <em>Fly To The Angels<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 19 plays, most recently on 11\/4\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Six new plays for the second single from the band&#8217;s debut album, which peaked at #19 on the Billboard charts.<\/p>\n<p>Boyz II Men &#8211; <em>It&#8217;s So Hard To Say Goodbye<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 62 plays, most recently on 12\/31\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Originally written for the 70s film <em>Cooley High<\/em>, the cover, originally recorded off the radio from Hot 94.7, saw a fourteen-spin increase over the past four years when you count both the radio and album versions.<\/p>\n<p>Salt-N-Pepa &#8211; <em>Let&#8217;s Talk About Sex<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 25 plays, most recently on 7\/22\/2022<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The tune, nominated for the 1992 Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group Grammy, increased its play total by eight since 2019.<\/p>\n<h3>Side B<\/h3>\n<p><!--more-->Color Me Badd &#8211; <em>All 4 Love<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 36 plays, most recently on 11\/21\/2022<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The 9th biggest hit of 1992 saw an increase of just five listens over the past four years, now that former White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers is no longer in the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Poison &#8211; <em>Your Mama Don&#8217;t Dance<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 18 plays, most recently on 12\/2\/2020<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A small three play increase for this live version wouldn&#8217;t have made it on to the tape if I hadn&#8217;t spent part of the Christmas break in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Poison &#8211; <em>Talk Dirty To Me<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 28 plays, most recently on 10\/8\/2022<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Again, were it not for spending part of the Christmas break in Florida, I wouldn&#8217;t have felt compelled add this to the collection.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce\u00a0&#8211; <em>Home Sweet Home<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 26 plays, most recently on 8\/12\/2022<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Originally released in 1985, the song, ranked as the 12th greatest power ballad of all time by VH1, was re-released in 1991 and managed to add five new spins over the past four years.<\/p>\n<p>MC Hammer\u00a0&#8211; <em>Addams Groove<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 25 plays, most recently on 11\/23\/2022<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The final top 10 hit for the rapper\/dancer, the theme song from <em>The Addams Family<\/em> film added only seven new listens since last we checked.<\/p>\n<p>Guns N&#8217; Roses &#8211; <em>Don&#8217;t Cry<br \/>\n<\/em>iTunes stats: 24 plays, most recently on 11\/4\/2021<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Hitting #10 on the Billboard charts, the first single from <em>Use Your Illusion I<\/em>, originally captured from The Blaze, added seven listens since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Def Leppard &#8211;
