{"id":19657,"date":"2022-12-05T18:03:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T00:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=19657"},"modified":"2022-12-05T18:03:00","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T00:03:00","slug":"the-crime-dog-solves-the-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2022\/12\/the-crime-dog-solves-the-case\/","title":{"rendered":"The Crime Dog Solves The Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Fred-McGriff-Cubs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19658\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Fred-McGriff-Cubs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Fred-McGriff-Cubs.jpg 768w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Fred-McGriff-Cubs-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a>The new Contemporary Era Committee announced the results of their vote Sunday night, inducting former Cub first baseman Fred McGriff into the Hall of Fame with 100% of the vote.\u00a0 McGriff, whose 18-year career also included tours with the Blue Jays, Padres, Braves, Devil Rays, and Dodgers, fell off the BBWAA ballot in 2019 after his tenth year, earning just 39.8% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>With the Cubs becoming surprise contenders in the 2001 season, they acquired McGriff from the Devil Rays.\u00a0 The Crime Dog held up his part of the bargain down the stretch, putting up a .942 OPS with 12 home runs in 49 games with the Cubs.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the pitching fell apart as the Cubs went 23-28 in August and September, finishing five games behind the Astros and Cardinals.\u00a0 At age 38, McGriff returned to the Cubs in 2002, posting a .858 OPS and 125 OPS+ to go along with 30 homers and 103 runs batted in.\u00a0 The rest of the Cubs, however, were butt, going through three managers and finishing with a 67-95 record.\u00a0 McGriff became a free agent following the season.<\/p>\n<p>Players needed twelve of the sixteen votes to gain election.\u00a0 Don Mattingly finished second, with eight votes, followed by Curt Schilling, with seven, and Dale Murphy with six.\u00a0 Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Rafael Palmeiro each received fewer than four votes.<\/p>\n<p>Fred McGriff&#8217;s numbers in games I\u2019ve attended were:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><b>HOF Career Batting<\/b><\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" bgcolor=\"#ffffff\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th bgcolor=\"#c0c0c0\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;
